I dont know if will help if you hit a big root but I took a grinder and sharpened the leading edge of mine hoping it might help.

To answer your question, KK is to blame. That is a classic cold weld with no penetration. Easy to fix with a grinder, welder and a cup of electricity.

No ducktape needed, not even duct tape.
