BP, I'm what I call a "half breed" owner. Have been for several years. I mow with the JD2210 and love it. I do tractor work with the L4400 and love that. I started with a JD455/B2910 combination which worked well also.

You seem surprised by the quality of your little JD. In 1979 I bought a 1974 JD140, used it for 15 years and gave it to my eldest Son, he used it for a few years and gave it to my youngest Son, he used it for a few more years and sold it to an elderly guy in town, he has restored it and still uses it. The engine has been overhauled once, hydro is original. My second JD was a 1990 322 which my youngest Son still uses.

I'd hate to pick a fight about JD/Kubota for durability. I like my Kubota, but I'd probably put my money on JD in the lawn care size. :)

I'm just wondering why the little guy didn't run into a JD garage. Orange envy is the best I can come up with.

BP,

No, not surprised by the quality of the materials, just a little surprised that after 15 by owner #1, and then 6 years by owner #2, my son, (who isn't known to be Mr. Mechanical, that would be my other son) that this thing is frankly in as nice of shape that it is. Pleasantly surprised would best describe it.

On another note, went to a dealer downstate today who sells both Deere and Kubota and spent some time sitting on a 24 hp Deere, 2000 series. Tried out the "two pedal" go/reverse system. Gotta say, I could adjust. It wouldn't be a show stopper for me, I don't think. I like the Kubota "rocker" pedal too. I guess I'm easy.

I know just what you mean!!! If I could combine my two tractors, taking the best of each, I'd have a heck of a machine. But then it's that the case in everything, trucks, cars, weedeaters, whatever. :)

Hello
My Dad had one like that but it seemed to me that it was an even older model as it had a 9 or 10 HP Briggs motor
He gave me the mower back in 1981 and I used it to trim around my place (1.5acres)to trim around the house and many trees 40+
That little thing could turn on a dime and never complain about long grass ect.
It lasted me for about 10 yrs when I sold it to a guy that did not want to take no for an answer.
As far as I know he still has it as it was going to be used on a city lot (40'X80')
Along with my old Cub 1650 my combination worked beautifully
Regards DGS
