Why A FEL?

Harv, what are you using to help in the weed pulling? It looks like I might be doing it the hard way.

I loop a length of chain around the trunk and clip it to the grab hooks on my bucket, then lift while moving forward. Are you using forks set close together?

Yep. Forks plus chain wrapped all around. That pict came very early on in my tractor experience, and the associated episode resulted in the original Stupid Tractor Tricks thread. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Although I have used the fork/chain technique successfully a few times now, I'm not sure I would call it a great way to remove saplings. There have been other threads discussing better methods, some of which require implements I can't afford right now. I keep telling myself that the 3pt (and a suitable attachment) would provide better lift at a better angle, but when I only have one or two to do, I'm too lazy or in too much of a hurry to remove my boxblade and figure it out. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Unlike the member whith the armstrong equipment, I have to turn some of this over to my Mexican co-worker, Manuel Labor. I'd rather use the FEL and some chain than the 3-inch mattock. I did try this on a 4 1/2 inch stump about three feet tall this week. Didn't lift the back end, but the front started to go down. I looked down and saw the front tires flattening out and decided that Manuel's gonna have to do the larger ones./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Harv, the little 3pt tree puller I had made works great on up to 3 inch saplings. For now while clearing field edges and old fence lines...run the dozer taking out the big stuff, then the tree puller taking out the 1-2inch saplings, brush hog, then the disc and leveler. Getting to run the tractor two or three times over the same ground gives plenty of seat time, and gives a great looking job.

BTW -- did you pay extra to have it match the color of your tractor so perfectly?

Got a picture of that 3 Pt tree puller? I'm clearing some trails (some of which were logging roads at one point) through a wooded area. There are a bunch of sections that are overgrown with lots of 1"-2" saplings. I've been brush hogging them, then trying to yank out the stubs with the box blade... sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. There has to be an easier way.
