I wish this would have happened last Saturday night. I am currently sitting bedside in the ICU next to my 16 year old son who was hit by a drunk driver driving the wrong way on a divided highway. The drunk already had an accident minutes before that took out his headlights. Head on collision killed my son's passenger and critically injured my son and a third passenger. It has been a terrible week and unfortunately you hit the nail on the head.

That is sad. Sorry for this tragedy in your family's life. Best wishes for you and your son.

I hate when things like this happen, and they happen way too often. Our prayers are with you and the other families.

Wow. So sorry. Hope your son is ok.

It's not just cars. We do the same with boats and airplanes.

Even if you decide to drive a Model T they can get the same data via your cell phone.

We are all being watched!

Chris

I do drive a Model T and more frequently a Model A Ford pickup... one thing I don't own is a cell phone.

Another analog in a digital world...

My brother said he needed a ranch truck and found a one owner perfect body 4.9 straight 6 with 5spd supercab F150.

Took one look at it and said it was too old being a 1996 and is now shopping 2015 pickups... the sales tax on his new truck would pay cash for the old one plus the insurance and fuel for the first year with money left over...

ultrarunner, good to see that you and your brother are  communicating, although without a cell phone or a fast car, I don't see how you do it!!

/ WHY all this complexity? #109
E-mail mostly...

I did have a cell back in the 90's and gave it up... didn't work where I live so it was of little real use.

I have a work cell that I have to carry and only for work use... it also will not work if I am anywhere out and about on the property... I live in a city of 425,000 people and just happen to be in a no coverage area.

Now my brother lives in a country setting and has excellent cell coverage... there is a line of sight tower way off in the distance... go figure?

Even though JD self-identifies as cantankerous (;)) , I can't imagine him, me or anybody else objecting jeje.

So, not from that perspective, but rather in terms of the significance of your situation, perhaps you can update us in the Friends and Family section ?

I suspect there are other TBN'ers who are not active in this thread, who would like to extend their Well Wishes to your family.

Best Regards, Dave.

I was the first person to respond to jeje's sad news, and in no way did he hijack this thread. His post was directly on topic and I was personally incensed when another member queried about him posting from the ICU at the hospital. My post rebuking that member for being crude and unthinking was removed after I posted it about 3 am.

Said member should have been ashamed of his rudeness and crude manner as regards his post rebuking jeje. And he still should be. What a moron.

Looks like I must have missed a post or two that got deleted? Today my son was moved to inpatient rehab facility where I and he will live for at least 3 weeks. I will make a post in the family section because it might prevent someone from drinking and driving.

I am still sending prayers to you and your son. Several posts were removed that were supportive of you, mine said in part that TBN members can and do reach out for support and I further said that the STUPID MORONIC TURD who was critical of you for posting from the ICU owed you an apology big time. He knows who he is as he was contributing to this thread frequently.

I missed those posts too. Best wishes to you and your son, Jejeosborne.

For those of you who need wizardry in everything, why not make it an option? Why make it "standard equipment" and force everyone to buy crap they don't need nor want? It's all about profit for big corporations and selling people on thinking they need the crap, that's why. No one has the ability to think for themselves, nor even open a door unless it's opened via an electric motor.

The highest MPG car I ever owned had a carburetor. Electronic fuel injection has far more potential, but yet, gas mileage has made little progress. Why? Big oil profits, big oil runs the government, that's why. Simple.

"Standard equipment" is often determined by what package the dealer ordered on their cars and if 80% of the vehicles ordered with package x get the touchscreen radio as well, they will likely make it standard for that package so as to reduce the number of customizations needed on the assembly line (which cost money).

Take your tinfoil hat off. The causes of MPG not improving are more likely from added weight (due to safety equipment and the accessories that people want in a modern car), more powerful engines and emissions equipment.
Compare a first generation Honda Civic (1973, 50BHP, 1500# curb weight, 40MPG highway) to a 9th generation Honda Civic (2015, 153BHP, at least 2,595# curb weight, 41MPG highway) (and tell me which you would pick if someone had them sitting next to each other and you had to make a 1000 mile trip in one of them).
The 2015 makes triple the horsepower, has a displacement of 1997CC vs 1170CC, has to move around at least 1095# more curb weight and it still gets a little better mileage.

All the "wizardry" as you put it is optional. You can get a basic radio basic controls, hand crank windows and manual locks on a ram. The basic radios and controls I would think are standard on most other makes too.
