Looks like there is no damage, other than the stain on the seat.

:D "just make sure your job description includes hazard pay...":D

It did when I work in R&D on weapons systems for the Navy. Contrary to popular belief, most bombs don't arm themselfs until a series of specific envoirmental conditions are satified. The final detonation train is completed at the very last seconds before the target is reached.

This keeps the good guys safe!

If you have a problem on a ship, there is nowhere to run to when out in the ocean, hence the huge effort to keep safety first.

If you have ever seen the safety film about the USS Forrestal, you'll know what I am talking about.

This fork lift picture has been around a long time, maybe over 10 years. Always good for a good laugh!;)

The USS Forestfire film has also been around a while, and has probably been seen by more sailors than any other film, except deepthroat.

ya know about 10 years ago, I was in the Marines and I seem to remember a incident similiar to this...
and although that warehouse looks like any other, it sure has a familiar look to it...

as for the how..
In the incident I remember, the brakes on the forklift worked, but then worked less.

anyway, we had a safety stand down for a few days while all the forklifts got a good once over..

ahh-- the good ole days, how you miss them, how you are glad you are missing them and how you wish you could relive some of them.....

I've seen that picture around before and I LOVE IT!

Can't you just imagine the supervisor's last words to the new forklift driver before turning him loose ala......."for God's sake, whatever you do be careful and watch the end of that loading dock" or "the brake is on the left and accelerator is on the right, don't screw that up" or "for Cripes sakes we're handling bombs here so don't do anything stupid, okay".....

and then the new guy goes and does that.

I wonder what kind of weapon that is....?

I wondered the same thing. It doesn't look like a conventional bomb at all. Perhaps it's an external fuel tank or other pylon mounted device, instead of a weapon.

There's no yellow around the nose to indicate that it's HE...Has the bomb lugs like it's to be mounted on a MER or TER or parent rack...Will have to do some research on it.

Would it have fins on it, if it was not a bomb?

Might be a personel pod, for the pilot to put his tennis racket in. The fins are to reduce buffeting in flight. I agree, not HE as no yellow stripe. It might also be an electronics pos such as a laser designator.

My last job required the handling of energetic material with no hazard pay. I didn't care for that part of the job, but I am grateful because it did pay well and let to my current job.

One of my best friends half brother was, Cheif Petty officer, Gerald Wyatte Farrier. He was killed on the Forrestal. Things like that are a real study in safety. He is buried a couple miles down the road from here in Kyler Cemetery.
He knew the danger and that is what made his act so heroic.
There is no heroism in blunders. Even though it is sad, how many lose their lives by just not thinking about what they are doing.

Question is.. i wonder if they were be able to save and clean the seat.. or if it had to be replaced?

One of my duties in a former job was to safety train forklift operators.
I would show an OLD hyster movie in which two guys in the warehouse got in a race. Anyway, one of them let up too late and slammed on the brakes just as he reached the dock.
Well then they show the floor which is wet.
Then they show the drivers face which is in a panic as he is sliding through the warehouse toward the dock at high speed.
Then they pan back and you see the forklift launch off the end of the dock and plunge 400' into Hudson Bay.
It really caught ones attention!

But here's the zinger:
There was a footnote in the training manual:
When they sent divers down to retrieve the forklift, they found 3 more in the same spot!!!

hmm..
This does look like an Electronics pod..
BUT there are so many variants-

Appears to have a few comm connection points..

When I was in, we affectionately call the Forrestal , the USS ZIPPO.

The fact is most everyone learns to accomplish a task and soon these actions become some what automatic. You must stay focused in order to oversee your actions. This is why it is critical to learn to perform dangerous task correctly emphasizing on the key decision or judgment points. Training and discipline will keep you out of harms way.
