Can someone help me?
I have about 3 acres of very rough, somewhat hilly ground in Southeast Missouri. My neighbors -- in the process of putting up $200,000 homes in our development-- would like me to be more conscientious about maintaining my "lawn" (I use the term loosely). It's extremely rough, was NEVER graded properly, and my back aches for two days after driving my mower over large parts of it.
I have a Sears 52" mower. Question is: would a bigger tractor, say a John Deere X485, be easier on my back on rough terrain?
I have to do something soon. People at the JD dealer say anything larger -- a full-blown farm tractor -- wouldn't be any better, and it would only tear up my "lawn." Even the ones they sell.
I hate to spend a bunch of $ having someone grade and re-seed three acres of ground, and then have to water the thing for a year. Also, I suspect this would literally be $ plowed into the ground, that I could never recover if I sold the house. OTOH, a tractor should have pretty good salvage value.
I've attached a picture that partially shows my Missouri acres, but you just can't appreciate from looking at the photo how bumpy the ground is.
Think I should try the JD X485?
