Why do practice beads not...

Sometimes with the stick welder it helps to keep your elbows in close and touching the sides of your stomach. Hold the wrist of the stinger hand with the free hand and you should have considerably more control and less shake or wobble. I've run some beautiful beads this way. My helmet is the old Tiger hood I had when I left the shop. Good luck and have fun!

I think the rod had a zink coating which contaminated the weld. Grind the weld off and then remove the coating outside of the bead area. Try again and you should get it.

I知 questioning trying to figure out how itç—´ helping. Didn稚 know if it was supposed to help non-auto darkening more to see where theyæ±*e starting the arc etc.

Guess I値l newb somewhere else.

I guess you just have to experience it yourself. I always run a 300 watt halogen light over my shoulder when welding inside. Outside in the sun is good welding conditions. You need the light to see the work NOT the arc.

Doesn't the arc, light the work? What could be brighter? Hey, you could light a theatre!

Or is the light source in the wrong spot? Would a high power LED light on ones Helmet work? That would be cool if it had a photocell to turn it on when you weld.

The extra light better lights the surrounding area so you don't get lost. I use a dark lens so I mainly see just the arc area. Extra light allows me to see more of the area I'm welding.

I did find that welding outside in the dark a couple weeks ago... had a flashlight set up so I could see what I was doing and left it there while welding and I could see amazingly better while welding... I was welding inverted and at a very goofy angle so the welds weren't great (along with being flux core running on 110V) but I could see what I wasn't doing well :)

The arc is only going to light puddle.....

Yes a high power LED on helmet will act like flashlight to light your path in the dark...
