OK that is a thought, but some of us have implements and other machines and have no need for the proprietary implements that duplicate what we already use . . . and being a friendly midwesterner, I need someone to hold my hand at the dealership and they don't have dealers so I have to figure out how to do that myself, and since my job is to sell candy to children and cigarettes to addicted adults, I don't claim to be too smart, if fact, most people talk s-l-o-w and LOUD to me because I have such a simple job and come from Indiana.

I don't know who took this thread off track, but you guys in N.E. ought to burn him at the stake! Oh wait, you guys did that in Salem didn't you . . . that didn't turn out so well did it?

Hey Bob, what do you mean that we are not friendly. If you are ever out this way stop in and say hi. I am a native New Englander, born and brought up in Taxachusetts. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Now why do tractors cost more in New England, because just about everything costs more here. I live in a small town and the price for a small starter home on a half acre lot is $300,000 and up. The reason tractors are more has been stated in other posts "quantity" and "dealer operating costs". The wage level is much higher here that in most parts of the country. If you are able to make a "New England wage rate" you really don't notice the high prices, but if you don't you probably do. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
That said lighten up a little you will live longer we are not all "mean" here I know I am not. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Take care and remember you will always be welcome in Massachusetts. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey last time I checked Conn and Rhode Island were also part of New England. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Being a native New Englander myself who has traveled much of the US, I will agree that on the average people in some other areas of the country can be friendlier. I do think Bostonians and New Yorkers tend to treat people rudely. My theory is the closer people live to a big city the more likely they are to be rude. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

By the way, the largest undeveloped area of land between Portland Maine and Washington DC on the East Coast is the region around where lamarbur, myself and several other TBN members live. It has been called the Last Green Valley and has been named a National Heritage Corridor. From a satellite there are very few lights observe. A map is attached.

It is all a mater of prespective.

$300,000 for a starter home. My wife and I bought our first house in '91 for $48,000. Sold it in '99 for $60,000. Currently a good starter is in the $60-70k range. Going by that our tractors are way over priced down south. A JD 4310 TBL that cost you's guy's $25k should only cost us $5-6k.

So, all you have to do is put up with unfriendly people to get ya'lls cheap prices?

I just heard on the radio that the median price of all homes sold in Mass in Feb was $304,000 and the average was almost $325,000. I don't think we have many under $200,000 small ranch houses.

Jim, I solved this problem by buying from a dealer in Alabama and had the tractor shipped up. After doing the research and chosing my preferred tractor, I spend about 6 months (I wasn't in a hurry) looking for that model on EBay, machinefinder.com, and another sight. The local Cub dealer could barely be bothered to give me a quote for $20K and I bought one with 90 hours on it for $13K plus $1k to have it shipped up. I bought from a reputable JD dealer and have never regretted it..

Andy sorry i fogot there was any thing south of the border. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I think were geting off track but oh well it's all in fun. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif personaly there are some nice areas in mass. too,but for the most part i live to close to the southern citys. I'm a do what you want on your property type of guy.pepole move here from Mass. to get to the country type of life, and then want the (city benifits)! they try to close down farms, didn't think theyd smell, ***** about pepole burning wood for heat that smell's also,One guy went so far as to put in the paper his neibor should pay to store his boat at a mareiner, because he didn't like the looks of the blue tarp the man coverd his boat with. (GIVE ME A BREAK!) The city mentality just doesn't stay in the city, when i was young every one here was nice and older pepole then (that was my age then) met for a cup of jo,and yes shot the crap at the hardware store. How things change. Hell i have even met a few friendly boston pepole-thats prety rare but there out there
