Why does everyone rant and rave about the EcoBoost?

I am surprised the 5.0 has a better payload rating than the ecoboost, yet the ecoboost has the higher towing reasons.
How much difference is there? If I had to guess, I would suspect that it probably weighs less. Lighter engine means more weight available for payload.

I posted on the other thread that the F150 we had picked out and sold to someone else turned up at the Christmas Tree lot yesterday.

Had a chance to talk to the new owner and so far he is disappointed with the engine...

He is contractor that spends much of his time estimating jobs so the truck is his office... he likes the truck...

What he does not like is it seems to be always shifting or hunting for gears and the mileage is no where close to what he was expecting...

It's only been a short time.... so maybe the mileage will get better?

Not sure if the new vehicles designed for fuel efficiency tend to shift a lot more or not...

I dont think it was too much, will have to look it up at some point. It would make sense to me that a higher payload earns a higher towing #, but i guess not the case in this instance...

An ecoboost hunting for gears? Something is wrong or this guy is nuts. They behave quite the opposite. Mine requires a lot of pedal pressure to force a downshift. Torque is amazing.

I have never noticed mine hunting for gears.

Like the others, I've sure not noticed mine hunting for gears.

^^^^ This.

The EcoBoost weighs somewhere around 60 lbs more than the 5.0, so it decreases the payload. The turbos and associated plumbing adds some weight.

I doubt his mileage will improve over time, unless he changes his driving habits or goes to different terrain. As for hunting for gears, I've always driven 3spd autos, and my 85 and 93s have/had OD. But our 2013 Impala has 6spd auto. It seems pretty smooth, but it has an electronic throttle. There is NO feedback to your foot and there's quite the delay between the time you press the pedal and the time the car responds. So in that relatively short time frame, your brain and habits tell you nothing it happening, so you step on it harder, which is way too much, and the car drops down 2-3 gears and snaps your neck back. It doesn't take too long to get used to it, and the Impala of that year is notorious for having a crummy throttle feel and too long of a delay. You can get it tuned out if you want to pay someone. Anyhow, maybe its a small delay or the electronic throttle that's causing him to step on the peddle too hard, which is causing the truck to downshift too often. That, or there's other problems, but I'd suspect driving habits, learning curve first.

I usually use a pretty light touch to save gas but I've always thought it to have pretty good response for passing and such when I want it. I don't think I've ever stomped on it except once when test driving it.

I enjoy stomping on the throttle when no one's around. I'm thinking of getting a tune for our Impala as soon as the warranty drops out. The ones I'm looking at are supposed to tighten up the throttle response and change the shift points, and how it shifts. But as you do, if I keep my foot out of it, it gets great mileage for something with so much potential HP available.

I think I read something about an ecoboost Mustang the other day. That looked like fun, but the review was mixed.
