The BoV is on the intercooler now? Is this on the new models from the factory because that's the first time I've heard that.

Also are you saying you change your lube oil at 10k mile intervals in your Boost?!? If that's the case I pity the sucker that buys the truck after you've had it.

Guess it's a direct injection thing. Mine will actually trail black smoke in the morning when I back up. Can see it in the mirrors. These engines are also prone to "gaining" oil in the cooler months from fuel getting past the rings. Several times mine has been 2 quarts over full when the 10,000 mile oil change comes around. Having replaced the timing chain twice and phasers once, I'm now doing the oil changes at 5,000 miles.

When I bought my 2012 the dealership told me more than 3 times to do 5K oil changes.

It does not gain any noticeable oil.

My family had been in the car business or decades... one thing they always stressed is early oil changes are a small price to pay...

My 85 and 91 Silverado work trucks work hard... but don't travel far... mostly just in town.

Since day one I have changed the oil every 2500 miles which works out to be every 6 months...

I have commuter friends that are able to stretch to 7,500 miles which also works out to be 6 months.

Could be why we have all experienced longevity... one gal has over 300k on her bought new Honda Accord... no engine or transmission work... she drives dailey from Oakland to Stockton and back to Oakland each work day...

I have not driven an ecoboost pickup, but we do have a 2014 ecoboost Escape SE with the 2.0L engine. We bought it on 6/23/2014 with 16175 miles on it. It had been an Oklahoma rental car. We have put a little over 20k miles on it ourselves; absolutely trouble free so far. Mileage on individual tanks of gas has gone more than 28 mpg with several over 27 mpg, but since most of our driving is short distances locally, using the air-conditioner, our overall mileage since we've owned it has been 24.685 mpg. It's supposed to have the system that will tell me when it needs an oil change, and may go 10k miles supposedly, but I just can't bring myself to let one go that long, so the oil change light has never come on, and I let the dealer change the oil & filter at 5k miles.

I think it's the dandiest little car I've owned, plenty of pep and power, good handling, and all the bells and whistles I'd ever want. Of course it may die tomorrow, but so far, so good. I'll probably replace the original tires early next year.

How? The intercooler is not part of the emissions system. The weep hole at one time was a recommended fix for the condensation issue from what I've read and it works and has zero chance of causing a failure as it is never under a vacuum at idle and pressurized at boost.

Drilled mine and posted videos on how much water came out. No problem to drill. The reason for emission concerns is that there is small amounts of oil in the water from case ventilation.

I agree with everyone about the noticeable power difference. In fact it is probably quicker than most 6 liter class motors. I average 15-16 in town and around 18 on the interstate. Towing milage is probably worse than the 5 liter but holding 6th gear cresting hills makes me grin.

Just a thought, wouldn't a weep hole in the IC cause a loss of boost to some degree? One of the tests I do to commercial trucks annually is a pressure test on the IC. Remove both side pipes and hoses, seal up, and pressure to 35 PSI with a gauge. If the IC looses 5 PSI or more in 15 seconds, time to replace. This type of loss greatly affects power and economy. Seems strange to punch a hole in the system and negate what it is supposed to do.

I performed tests to see for myself. Watch my videos.

Boost pressure with and without hole.

I do the same. No oil gain.

Dilution issues are more a problem in colder climates. Ford recommends block heaters for those reasons. This is true with any direct injection motor. Not just Ford.

Man I would love to get 14-15 MPG. I barely get 12 in the Commander - without towing anything. Voracious.

OUCH- I just managed 16.8 hand calculated pulling my 10 K 20 foot fifth wheel trailer loaded with an older John Deere 3 bottom hydraulic lifted plow pulled with my 03 Cummins powered 1 ton 4x4 RAM delivered it and made the return trip- total of over 300 miles. have broken 24 with just the wife on hiway shopping trips in the city.

the Commander you have, one of the new Jeep designed vehicles?? Gas powered?

I get about 18 to 20 miles per gallon on the highway with my 5 L in my 2014 super crew 4 x 4.
