Where do I begin.....
There's so many ways to make a living. I'm officially narrowing the list of acceptable jobs by one. I wouldn't paint (auto/truck/tractor/airplane/ect) for all the tea in China. (Must be a lot of tea there to get an old saying like that?) Anyway, I'm about to sub out my spray painting. Here's one evening of observations of a hack amature painter gone wild.

Primer that will dry in 45 minutes @ 60* won't dry at all @ 55*

When my wife gets in my paint locker for thinner to clean a paint brush, she almost always uses my $40 a gallon enamel reducer instead of mineral spirits. She leaves cap off. Good stuff evaporates. I'm all set to mix paint when that surfaces. Go on road trip before painting. (Local NAPA stocks a LOT of paint and body supplies)

VEry high metalic content in last paint sprayed means send gun back to factory before using again if not cleaned 100%. (Well, maybe dismantle and soak in solvent for a week) I found that out AFTER mixing paint.

Turn compressor on before starting to spray.

Giggle and laugh about buying a SECOND paint gun because they were on sale. Nothing like new.

Spray paint for approx. 2 minutes. Done. Just painted a weight bracket and brush gaurd. All that turmoil. (Does look good though)

This was a practice run for the final 2 rounds of this paint job. Hood is next, then fenders. (MF 150) If you learn from your mistakes, I'm going to be the Einstien of tractor painting some day.

Re-install painted parts tomorrow. Then it's time to start motivate myself for the next fun night of standing in a red fog.

AIN'T THIS FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Ain't that the truth.. mix paint.. let set for 30m to activate.. spray for 30 seconds, then take another 10 minutes to clean the gun, and another 15 minutes to roll up air line... gotta love it..

This is why I love spray paint cans. Drop by the local body shop, tell them what I need, they mix it, put it in a spray paint can with one of the good spray tips and when I'm done painting, I'm done. No muss, no fuss, no mess. Just shake, spray and done. :) Best of all, when I scratch my paint job in under 2 weeks from now (usually the first day I use it) I don't have to break out the painting equipment again. Just get out the spray can and give it a quick shake.

Wish I could make some progress on re-painting my MF-135. Got the sheet metal primed and then the rains came. Too damp for a spray job the last 2 weeks. More rain coming the next 10 days. Hope the rain stops and the temp pops up to the low 60s soon.

I've painted several tractors with spray bombs over the years with mixed results. The castings paint up good that way. Sheet metal is a different story. Certain colors lend themselves better to spray cans than others also. Green, yellow, white, and blue work good in a can. Red doesn't. (at least the red I'm using now) I tried some touch-up with the Massey red in a can. It left too many "dry edges".

For some unknown reason, I've decided to raise my standards on tractor painting. The last 3 have progressively gotten better. Then I switched brands of paint......Ugggggggggh! Add to that, this tractor (150 MF) is the first time I've sprayed paint high in metalic content. (Flint grey metalic on the chassis) The paint turned out fantastic. What ISN'T fantastic is that metalic paints need far more effort to properly clean out the gun when done.

At this point, I'm about 90% done with the 3rd tractor of what is now a total of 6 that will be "made new" again. 1st 2 went like a charm. #3 is driving me bonkers.

I painted a couple of motorcycles and got cocky once.
I decided to repaint my pickup....In a pasture...with a $25 HF spray gun.

One of the guys at work asked me how much it cost to have my whole truck Rhino Lined.

Ahhh, the follies of youth!

Hard-er to do with hardened or catylized paint that goes bad 8hrs after mixing...

Good point. Also, it's sort of expensive buying large quantities of paint in spray bombs. Not to mention the tired "trigger finger" after a couple dozen cans.
