I The front of the mower is 1/4 inch lower in the front than the back on both sides.

The front low is correct. You only want to cut the grass one time, so the first thing the that sees the grass is what cuts the grass.

The other suggestions on the side to side are good, especially the one about letting the dealer fix it!

Rogator, It almost sounds like each spindle is not level to the deck, I would check the spindles to see if they are level, also if they have some kind of spacer (shim)between the spindle and the deck on one side of the spindle that would offset it from being level, If you don't see an obvious problem with the deck you may end up having to shim the spindles yourself to make it right.... Unless you can throw this problem in your dealers lap... Good Luck!!

After checking tire pressure of course.. how about measuring from blade tip to concrete on all blades.. then rotate them 90' and measure again, and see what you get.. then the other 90' ( to make 180'.. that is.. hald way around.. etc ).. and see if it jives... Might have warped blades.. or mismounted spindle.. etc.

Soundguy nailed it. Two warped blades. The dealer is giving me a new set. They were like this from new. Thanks for all the replies and advise.

Well, I've gone through this myself a few years back. My problem was not with leveling, but with my mower deck clogging and not dispersing clippings nicely. Did some research and found that most manufacturers design their decks with a slight tip forward. Something in the area of 1/4 to 1/2 inch lower in the front. I did some measuring and found that my mower was actually lower in the back. I adjusted it so it was 1/4 lower in the front and it completely solved my clogging problem. The idea here is that the leading edge of the mower does the cutting and the rear edge generates the vacuum and dispersal. I actually went back and tipped mine even more towards the front so I could mow through some heavy overgrowth areas.

There might have been something like wood blocks under the deck when it was bound down and shipped.. thus bending the blades..

Glad you found the problem.

Well I put the new blade on last nite. Spent a bunch of time making sure the deck was level and gave it a try. Its still cutting uneven!!! The middle blade is cutting level and the outside blades are cutting on an angle. I checked the blades and then turned them half a turn and they were not the same.

The service manager and mechanic came out today for a look. Of course they checked the blades and said they were fine. I showed them my lawn and they came up with excuse after excuse. They took the covers off the pulleys and said they were fine and not wobbling. I said they can still be on an angle and not wobble. Insert next excuse here. I mowed a strip for them and the mechanic said the marks are from my tires. I got tired of being treated like an idiot and told him off. He walked away.(Good move, I'm 6'3" 325 and very angry at this point) I tell the service manager the bottom line is this deck cuts like crap and is unexceptable. The next excuse almost had me laughing in his face. " Well maybe this deck is just too big and can't be leveled" John Deere's head office would be proud of a comment like that!

The service manager told me at a different time that these decks need to be adjusted each time you remove and reinstall them. I have a four year old LX 277 with 48" mower that has been removed and reinstalled from my tractor dozens of times. It cuts perfectly and was adjusted when I purchased it and never since.

After they left I phoned my salesman (a very nice guy) and told him sorry for the complaining but I take pride in my lawn and paid good hard earned money for this tractor. I have owned this tractor for one month and my first payment is due in two days and they still don't have my mower cutting properly. I have been complaining about the quality of the cut since day one.

I told the salesman I want the problem fixed or my money back in full. I am tired of getting the run around from the service manager and will never go back there for service.

Like jwnge said (The key word is new, put it back in the dealers hands, have him make it right, if he is a good dealer he should make it cut right before you use it again. You pay for it to be correct and it should be correct. It is a John Deere after all.) it is new and should be correct.

I really like this tractor and hope they make it right. If they don't I will ask for a refund and test drive a 2305 with 62" deck at another dealer. If the cut is good I will buy it. If it is not I will try a Kubota.

Can any 2305 owners tell me what they think of the quality of cut from their 62" mowers. Thanks

My bet is for spindles that are not installe dperpendicular tot he deck.. they must have a 'cant' to them.... or the deck itself it bowed...

I don't have the same model tractor, but I have the same deck. Mine works fine accept for when I mow sideway's on a hill. Sometimes the deck will lean and cause about 1/4 inch mismatch. I just figure that is normal for such a large deck trying to mow sideway's on a fairly steep slope. Needless to say, I don't mow the hill that way any more, I go up and down the slope now.

I would either look for another dealer, or a refund. We don't go to our local dealer, we go an extra 25 miles to another Deere dealer becouse the service is so much better. Our local dealer is 7 miles away, and the one we go to is 32 miles away. We have nothing else in our area anyway's, so even if we switched brands, we would have to drive to the same area.

I have to agree with Soundguy. Bent or warped blades will not cause an angled cut, maybe conical or ragged, but not angled. The spindles have to be off perpendicular to the deck.

I am going to try and attach photo of a strip I just cut on my lawn with the deck leveled. You can see how the blades are not cutting level. Hope this works.
