Why no Ecoboost in the F250?

So, they assume there will be a Ram EV with Diesel range extender... i.e. a small Fiat 4 cylinder diesel optimised to operate at a single engine speed, meaning it can operate at fixed operating conditions and load, and built cheaper, simpler and leaner than variable speed engines...

Paint's not faded its got a cloud over it and
it makes the paint looked faded :ROFLMAO:

willy

Oh the paint is faded and she’s old. Still pulls like you can’t believe.
I think the Magnums were the apex of power and comfort without all the unreliable junk bolted to them. This one has electrical system quirks, but I can live with that.

For $40,000, it can’t be beat. $250,000 for new tractors is not an option.

I love my Case-IH Magnum power shift.
300HP of 8.3L Cummins badass
Pulls a 38,000lb baler around like a Radio Flyer wagon.

Almost countless applications using the 8.3 have racked up RIDICULOUSLY high hours/miles...... If I had one, it would be in my Will.

Thread topic - EB gives high-specific output, which looks good on paper, and test-drives well - so it sells in the light-duty consumer market. Many/most Superduty customers have high Reliability/Uptime requirements.

2016 Explorer at work has already had a new EB engine, and it doesn't tow anything. IIRC that year still had the 3.5 NA available, which I'd expect is what Police fleets bought.

The mentality is build a crappier and crappier product that last a shorter time. People are to stupid and will still buy it.

apple even got caught red handed nerfing batteries in phone via software to force obsolete them and people stil buy them
Why are our Landfills overflowing ? ;)

The Apple reference is highly relevant. If you look at what various (Transportation and Industrial) equipment manufacturers have leveraged off of DRM legislation (originally designed to deal with Audio and Video pirating), it can be best summed up by the line attributed to Peter Thiel - "Competition is for Losers". I can't think of a better way to sum up The Valley in four words.

John Deere Promised To Back Off Monopolizing Repair. It Then Ignored That Promise Completely.

But, there are plenty of other ways to _____ the customer, w/o using a broad-scale scorched-earth weapon like that ^.

Contractor buddy of mine recently put an alternator into his EB Transit - well over $1,000 CAD (Part cost before tax. I think it was actually closer to $1200). Not a Covid shortage, there was NO aftermarket part number option at all. I've seen Ford do the same, with certain Focus alternators.

I haven't sat down and keyboard-shopped for modern Superduty alternators to be sure that the above scenario isn't repeating there, but I do know that large industrial fleet customers would take a really dim view of that kind of constrained key-component market. Money is money, but the bigger issue (IMO) is downtime...... sole-source critical-function parts leave you very vulnerable.

Military has been interested in that type of configuration for the reasons you cite. An ev scout-vehicle is nice and quiet, but not something you want sitting at a charging station in the wild.

Hybrid combinations like that give great flexibility. Given that I still like to drive long distances for personal trips, if I'd been in the market in recent years, I probably would have given serious consideration to the Chevy Volt.

My brother in law had a Focus C-Max with a CVT. A bearing rattled at idle, but no transmission specialist would touch it with a 10 foot stick. Or one that said it would cost him 1200 but absolutely no warranty on the work done.

The alternator was also something special, replacement costs 600 because they integrated something into it.

He sold it to an export trader, it most likely went to Ukraine or somewhere former USSR, and now hes happy with Toyota again.

Henry Ford is said to be scrounging around on scrapyards, looking at old Fords to see which parts didnt fail so he could cut some more costs on those parts. And it seems Ford Europe is still operating by the same philosophy, they offer a well equipped car for a nice price, but i dont want to buy them used, because everybody i know who did, keeps throwing money at it. Unfortunately they applied the same principles at Volvo too, so i dont think i will ever buy a Volvo designed in the Ford era, ive seen enough of my mates Focus based V50s... I dont expect the Geely era to produce cars like they used to, either...

Been a Volvo guy for a long time, have two FoMoCo era Volvos now, 07’ V59 and an 09’ S80, no real issues with either, but the FoMoCo stamped parts make me sick….lol. About 130k miles each.

I’m actually contemplating buying another Magnum or New Holland TG 285-305 just to get another 8.3 Cummins.
