If you finance through New Holland/CNH, $500 is added to the price of the tractor. If you finance with your bank or any other lending institution then it's $500 less on the price of the tractor.
Is this on the "Zero Interest" type loans or all loans? $500.00 is quite a bit on interest up front!

No sure. I financed with CNH at 5.9% on a 6 year note and the $500 was added. It doesn't matter either if your putting down $4000 as I did or $40,000 they still add the $500 if you go through CNH. If looked at in the long run that's still better then a bank with there rates today. Lowest rate I could find with a local bank on a new tractor here was 8.5%

EDIT: Spelling Corrections LOL

Randy,

I see what you are saying about coming out ahead in the long run, but I am still curious about the added $500 up front. Maybe a NH dealer or other knowlegable person could enlighten me?

If you finance a 2815 or a 3215 right now with Mahindra at 4.99% for 72 months, Mahindra will contribute $500 towards your down payment. They call this a Customer Price Reduction (CPR). Or they have 0% for 48 months with no CPR....or on a cash deal they have $400 cash in-lieu rebate plus the $500 CPR mentioned above, for $900 off. That is off the sales price, not the MSRP. Sales price is generally quite a bit lower than MSRP, so a person could save $3k or more off MSRP if the dealer is pricing aggressively.

OK, so that is a little bit of a sales pitch, but at least it is right on topic.:D

Made an error above. I financed at 4.9% for 6 years and not at 5.9% Sorry for the error.

I couldn't even get my local Kubota dealer to quote me a price over the phone. He said something like.. I'm not going to get into price chiselling over the phone.

I ended up buying from a dealer a hundred miles away.. even though I would have paid a premium to have a local dealer's "interest" in my well being.

I ended up buying a backhoe off the guy a year later to break the ice.

I've found prices range quite a bit.. so I have no doubts it's pressure from the dealers to keep the MSRP offline. Consider that some dealers have higher operating costs beyond their control that must be fed into the price of the tractor. Just like the price of homes can range alot within just a few hundred miles.. Land, rent, labor costs.. utilities.. It would be difficult for some dealers to compete with others in customer range. But when it comes to parts and service.. I can imagine it would be in a tractor company's interest to support dealers in all areas of the country.. by not trying to point the way to lower prices a state or two away.

I wouldn't do business with someone with that attitude either. Tractor dealers (just like car dealers) run the spectrum from tolerable to idiotic. The good ones realize that they make their profit by providing good service at a reasonable price. The bad ones try to sell everything at a premium thus ensuring that their volume is low. They try to make a mint off of each tractor instead of a small profit off of a higher volume of sales.

When I purchased my MF 471 I shopped around between several dealers. The price differential between the highest and lowest one was $3500. That's a lot of excess profit for that guy and he wasn't interested in dealing at all. I just thanked him for his time and got up and walked out. I don't have time to waste with someone who's trying to gouge me.

If a dealer won't talk prices over the phone then he doesn't want your money very badly. Dealers that aren't interested in attracting customers deserve to go out of business, which is what most that have that attitude end up doing.

Whether before the deal or after the deal, it's the little things that really count! Those "little things" can be money (yeah!), attitude, real interest in my needs, etc. When I purchased the 5030, I found a local dealer that would meet the price of the best I had found asking around. But it was the extras that made me feel good about giving them my business and some of those extras came after the sale! After them agreeing to meet the price quotes I had, I asked (very politely) if they could come down on price. He said no on the tractor, loader, implements, HOWEVER they added a few hundred $$ extras for free (rear work lights, rear wiper on cab, gauge wheels for rake, tooth bar for loader, 3 chain hooks on FEL bucket). The salesman and manager were very nice, very patient, and actually steered me away from spending more on a larger tractor that they realized was too large for my specific needs. The tractor was delivered within 5 hours of purchase. When the extras arrived, they came out, picked it up to add those, and returned it all fixed up as ordered - no extra charge for delivery. When they brought it to me the second time , they brought me a front guard for my rotary cutter (no charge for this!). I didn't even ask for this. I just casually mentioned during our discussions at the time of purchase that I might buy one someday! On top of all that, pickup and delivery for future service work will be at no extra charge (35 miles each way). As you can see - lots of "little things" that add up to a very satisfied customer!! That might have something to do with the fact I have since sent them another customer!

I can tell you that when we were ready to purchase the TC-40D we went to the nearest dealer who also was the preferred dealer. He was 4K higher for the same package as another dealer that was over an hour away from me. Guess where we bought?

Different companies also have a different percentage between MSRP and dealer cost - some are as low as 15, others near 60. MSRP is largly a useless figure. I never bother to sit down and figure out what it is when selling a tractor.
