( I enjoy listening to an oposing view of just about any topic. If somebody can rationally explain it to me, I love to listen. Doesn't matter if it's politics, religion or just about anything.

What I can't take is an opinion that can't, or wont be supported, by some sort of reasonable explination. If you believe something to be true, then feel free to enlighten me.

The only person that bothers me on this website is the one who has nothing to say, but copies and pastes without an inteligent comment.

Most TBNers kept it civil and intellectual, but a few love to fan the flames by presenting their personal point of view as unassailable, and therefore not in need of a factual basis. That ruined it for the rest of us, and in the end the exclusions were implemented. Bummer for the rest of us, though. Pete

( Would rather attend a funeral outside in the pouring rain than discuss either politics or religion. Everyone has their own opinion on each and as a result many conflicts arise all to suddenly. )

To the point, spot-on, and well said......

To some politics IS religion. To others, religion is politics. To me, both are PERSONAL.

And by the way, I've seen more good websites brought to an untimely end by politics than all the rest of their problems combined.

Give me a good ol' GREEN AND YELLOW vs. RED AND WHITE fight ANY DAY! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Why people can\'t discuss politics politely

I could careless either way since nothing will change. I work with people on the left side and the right side. It is funny as you know what when people think it matters.

I would be very careful in your selection of names here. It takes more then a few books, little know-how & statistics to be an engineer here; as anyone will tell you. Unless you get a degree online. It is not a quick little 8-hour class and you are certified like other things.

Re: Why people can\'t discuss politics politely

The fact that the whole concept of politics, in general, go against the core values of nearly any purist of any major religion is a problem. I am a very conservative Christian guy (I'm making that as a simple statement, not debating any issue so hopefully the moderators won't take offense at that statement).
Politics tends to get very heated when discussed with people in my family just for the simple fact of what politics means. Politics are all about compromise. Making slight compromises against ones own belief system so that, hopefully the other side will do the same. The end result is usually that SOMETHING gets done (as opposed to neverending deadlock) and that neither side is neither completely happy nor completely disgusted.
The problem is that compromising a persons moral underpinning in any way (even slight) is a problem and better left to the politicians. The same goes for attorneys. Attorneys are bound to uphold the law even if the law contradicts their moral beliefs. I just can't stomach the thought of such things even though I realize that there would be nothing but neverending deadlock if everyone was like me. Its just better off if I let other people compromise their beliefs /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
