Just curious ... obviously I have the 1648. But it's very rare that people talk about the mid to high HP models of these series on the MF forums.

Are they not popular tractors? Are the people that own or shop for them (other than me) too busy to post? Are they just so reliable that no one ever feels the need to mention them?

There are lots of posts about the economy series, the utility tractors, even the smaller GC and 17xx SCUT lines.

Just doesn't make sense ...

I think the people with larger properties and tractors are busy making money and consider them tools. Homeowners seem to have plenty of time to dwell over and accessorize their tractors because they don't have to make an income from them. I am in the middle, I make some money from my land but have a day job as well. I see very few larger tractors of any brand being discussed.

I don't now Tom... Look at how often the DK40-50 series are mentioned in the Kioti forum, how often the LS R4041/47 tractors are mentioned, the Kubota L4240 & up ... the Yanmar LX410,450,490, ... the Mahindra 4035/5035, 5010, etc... are mentioned. Clearly this size tractor gets alot of traffic on this site, but here in the Massey forum, this whole group of tractors doesn't get much attention. My Massey dealer (who also sells Kioti) says he sells something like 5:1 Kioti:Massey, mainly because the Massey tractors are so much more expensive. Is that the reason maybe?

You are probably right. I think I jumped ahead into why 100 hp and above tractors seldom get mentioned. I think I keyed on "high HP" in your post, sorry. I sure hear a lot of good things about the new Masseys but very few problems.

Yes and no ... for a guy like me (and many others on this forum) who needs HST, that's not an option. There are many utility models I'd love to have, but the work I do requires HST, so I'm limited to the high HP CUT's.
Not only that, but the 1500, 1600, and (I'm assuming) the 1700 series tractors are "higher end" models with more R&D refinements. Utility models typically don't even have Powershuttle transmissions, flat-bottom work stations, good loader joysticks, and quiet engines.

If I was in the market for a 50-60hp tractor for our farm, a 1652 or 1660 would be the tractor I'd look at first and foremost.

A Powershuttle will work just as good, if not better on a loader. Superior in ground engaging work, including using a blade. Will also outlast an HST on larger applications.

Yes they do. Look at the MF 5600 series, the ultimate Utility tractor.

Yeah, right...

Perhaps a very skilled operator on a power shuttle machine can do loader work as fast as someone on a hydro, but for the vast, vast majority of users, the hydro will be far faster, and easier.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, tso, I think you said the answer to your question when you said your dealer sells 5 kiotis for each Massey. There's just not as many out there.

And will put more useable HP to the ground for it's size. I mostly run my shuttle shift tractor. When I get on my Brother's HST I immediately get aggravated. Can't control the movement of the tractor nearly as well. But TSO is adament about having HST and that's cool.

As for the HP discussion. I'm not sure. When I was looking for a larger tractor I searched for Massey. Found very little activity in any website for the 45HP and bigger Massey's. Not sure what that's all about. Maybe they price themselves out of the market?

That's a "high end" utility tractor that's two full classes above the 1600/1700 series, bro. It isn't your typical garden variety utility tractor that we/I are referring to.

A Powershuttle is indeed a better all-around transmission for tractors (IMO), but it does not "work just as good, if not better on a loader" than an HST.

The Powershuttle is indeed far superior when it comes to ground engaging tasks and pretty much anything other than loader work, but when it comes to using a loader, nothing is as quick or precise as Hydro.
