Kubota uses Piston Pump/Motor Combo Units.....The noise you hear is the oil running thru the piston rotating groups......the whine increases with pressure/velocity/torque......and/or hyd oil viscosity...

That will learn me for taking my lecturers advice. Goes to show experience counts tenfold over book learning

a hst inst like a torque converter. the only way there alike is the fact the both use low pressure hi flow hydraulics but the concepts are different.
