"According to Dean, the 6-foot snake held on to George痴 hand for a long period of time and he tried to get it off with some items in his truck. When it did finally release his hand, Dean said they captured it under a bucket.
The paramedics were able to get a picture of the snake after killing it and later identified it as a caned rattler, a brownish-grey snake that gets darker towards the rattle.
George was laid to rest in Powell Cemetery in Austin on Wednesday."

Sad story for sure:(:(:(.Sometimes tuff to get your witts about you when something like that happens so fast.A pocket knife you know you have to open and if your right handed would be tough with left hand or have person(s)? there get it out. From story sounds like rattler got fangs stuck on web of his hand. You know what they say about about hindsite, but I think two better alternatives would have been to heat up rattler with bic type lighter if possible or slam his body in tailgate of truck.Who's to say the outcome would have been any different:(.Once again real sad story. That is sad.
Paige is only about 45 minutes down the road from my farm. Kind of brings it home that you never know when calamity will strike.

I feel sorry for the man and his survivors. 35 is awful young to go.:(

But gees, just put your hand on the ground and stomp the thing. All of your weight on the snake's neck and pull up. So what if it shreds your hand. Get that thing off! The longer it stays on the more venom it pumps in there.

It is so important to keep your head in a panic situation. :(

There are some big rattlers around that area.

Didn't say how he came to be bitten by the snake but an ounce of prevention might be worth more than the biggest pocket knife you could carry.

Austin's Fox news reported:

""Yancy, the victim´s brother said, "He went to pull off on the side of the road as you usually do in the country to use the restroom. And as he was using the restroom his pants fell down to his ankles and he went to pick up his pants and that's when the snake bit him on his hand.""
