Why is it that when someone makes a link to "Yesterday's Tractors", that link will stay and not be removed by any of the moderators, however when I posted a link to a website that also has a few "forums" ( not that they have ever been used by the looks of it), it gets deleted? I am specifically referring to when I posted the link to his Neil Messick's web site for people to view a picture of the new Woods backhoe attachment for the Kubota BX series.
Here are a few examples that I can find quickly:

example 1 where the link to another site is allowed......#469686 - 07/29/04 07:49 AM

example #2... post # 454167 - 06/30/04 09:47 PM where the link was zapped.

another example of the link being "zapped"......

Example #4 where Neils posted link was removed......

another link to Yesterdays Tractor were it was allowed to stay.....

PLEASE, don't crucify me like you did the last time that I asked a question involving moderation in this forum. Please let me and others know what the standard is, so we won't be in violation of the rules. Sorry, if I ask the hard questions that no one else is willing to ask. Must be the Black Sheep in me.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That particular website is automatically filtered because of repeated violations of our terms of service by the website owner. None of those posts you linked to were edited. It's an automatic filter.

Yesterday's Tractors doesn't compete with us, and none of the website owners come here promoting their website. Same goes for literally thousands of websites that get linked to in our forums (all major MFGs, other information sites, etc).

But when the owner of a competing website comes here and continues to violate our terms of service (which very clearly state that no advertising is allowed without permission), then you can bet we're going to do what we have to do to protect our interests.

Friendly, useful linking is one thing... advertising and soliciting traffic is quite another.

Thanks for the quick reply. This reply puts a different slant on the question because of the information that you have posted and I was not aware of. I also didn't realize that there were "filters" to remove site links. I had just assumed that it was done by a human intervention. Once again, thanks ..... Junkman......

They don't have to..... all they have to do is ask me once to leave and I will be gone. I don't go where I am not welcome, and I don't stay were I am not wanted. If at any time in the future, that I feel that my presence here isn't comfortable for me, I will leave without my being asked. I already have a mental list of people that I feel that don't care for me, so I don't ever answer any of their posts. If someone makes a negative comment about me, I add them to my list. If one of those people should ever PM me with a question, I will answer it directly. Life is short enough, no need to make it any shorter by being uncomfortable in your environment. Like most of the people here, I try to be helpful, and informative. If I can help just one person, I feel that my mission is complete. I can also turn my back as quickly as I can help if I feel that the person requesting help is intolerant of others. It is the appreciation of the people that are here that keeps me posting and reading. Unfortunately, too many have been run off before they have had time to contribute, because of the intolerance of others. This is the part of the community that distresses me the most. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Helpful and Informative-- That's what most of us are here for.
While we're at it, many of us try to make it fun and entertaining also. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

In addition, many of us have developed friendships with one another. Good fellowship of friends is an important part of life that is often overlooked by many people. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You must remember that these people represent a small minority of the TBN community. They want people to help them, but get angry when others do not agree with their line of thinking. (for example, they get angry if someone says they are looking at a different color of tractor than the one they own)

Many times, it is hard to ignore these members' posts, but hopefully these posters who are putting a dark cloud over things will see that kindness and civility are prevailent among the rest of the TBN members, and those who are otherwise will change their behavior or leave the community. Unfortunately, you are correct, and I fear that some new members will think the behavior of these few people represent all TBN members as an entirety.

Valuable TBN members must resist the temptation of getting caught up in the tangled web of these terrible few, or both these contributors and the readers of these posts will ultimately suffer.

Junkman,

It sounds like you would agree with my philosophy in situations like that:

Better people than you don't like me either!
