banc123, thanks for the info. Sorry for your injuries. One know I think this forum has another thread going on right now about is it safe to connect to pto shaft with tractor running size it has to have lever operated by person to engage. Amazed me how many said yes...they ought to read this.

Wholly cow - I guess there must be a legit use for that big 'ol weeny roaster.

banc123 - your vivid description makes my poor old shoulders ache. I occasionally will start the tractor while standing along side - I'm going to quit that!!! Medivac copters go for $24K per hour. You know - I'm not all that sure that I'm worth that much. I think I'd make sure the insurance was going to pay or just tell them to "leave me here" and see how it works out.

I was no longer conscious by the time that decision was made, initially both helicopter units that were in range (2hrs) declined to take the trasport because they were worried about payment. Yep, they are not required to get you if they don't service the county. By brother gave them his unlimited Corp credit card , it cleared and one of the, agreed to come. It ended up being covered by insurance once proven it was life threatening. The rest of the bill was $320,000 , I ended up not paying a dime since our hunt club insurance covered the deductible.

Some helicopter ambulances have been sued for excessive billings, but they showed the reason they bill so much is many of their transports can't/don't pay so they have to triple charge to occasionally get paid large amounts to cover all the losses. So those that have insurance subsidize those that don't 🤔

banc123 - I can easily understand the hospital bill for $320K - its that helicopter ride that throws me. The wife's hospital bills ran over $1.5 million. Our insurance carrier, at that time, paid for the first half - the second hospital forgave the second half. I've got VERY BAD feelings for a certain insurance company - obviously.

Not a tractor.

36 years ago I was on bicycle and teenage girl made left turn in to parking lot. Her statement was "I didn't see him until he broke my windshield." I was lucky and woke up laying on 2' x 8' grass strip between street and sidewalk. Police measured 22 feet from impact to landing. My wife of 6 months got call from stranger to meet me at hospital. I ended up walking out of hospital that day, nothing broken. Hurting for a few weeks. Still have some aches from it.

Insurance company declared large "depreciation" on my 1 year old bike. Had to argue to get replacement cost. Helmet fully covered - cracked and paint smear from car.

Bought my first car shortly after that.

I was plowing sod with my tractor one year on ground that had been a forest a few months before. It was rocky ground and one of the many rocks hit the oil pan drain plug, loosened it and it fell off. As I was plowing I saw a black line just in front of the moldboard and suddenly I realized what it was. Shut the tractor off right then and got under the tractor and watched the last drops of oil run out of the base.

That was a close call!

Last October I was mowing along an old fence line. It was a beautiful autumn day, and I was running at half normal speed. All of a sudden, the wind picked up in one of those weird swirling gusty motions. Went from dead calm to probably 24 mph winds in a minute.

A dead limb form a large tree came down right in front of me and stuck straight into the ground. 8 feet further and I would have been impaled.

It's still stuck that way, every time I mow around it I just smile. Missed me that time!

When I was still in my 20's and working as a carpenter I grabbed a 2x4 with my left hand and used a wormdrive saw to rip it with my right hand. That was a common move at the time, we used to wire the guard out of the way to make it easier. I felt a slight nick on my ring finger. Looking down and fearing the worst, I saw about a 1/4" flap of skin sticking out from the fingertip, and one drop of blood. I took that as a warning and never wired the guard up again.

I was riding down a 4 lane road on a Springer soft tail with a group of friends. Had a car pull out and cut me off. When I swerved around them, I had my front fender get caught into the frame of the bike locking the front tire at an angle

Ended up sliding into a curb at 50. Did a complete flip side ways. Landed smack dab in the middle of the sidewalk still sitting on the seat, on the tires. Then got tossed off the bike. Managed to somehow land on my feet running sideways in a boat dealers parking lot.

Was doing really good and feeling pretty good about the situation till I clipped a trailer tongue with my leg, then went a@@ over tea kettle into another trailer.

I fixed the bike up shortly after that and sold it. Haven't ridden since.

Bought and rode my first two wheeler - Lambretta - in 1965. Raced dirt track when we lived in Anchorage - 750 "Snortin' Norton". I was too big & knew what pain was - never won much at racing. When we moved back down here I bought a '98 Low Rider. Rode that Harley up until two years ago - then transferred over to my current bike - BMW R1200GSA.

I hope all of you can hear my knuckles knocking on wood - over 50 years of riding and never gone down or been in an accident. Been MIGHTY darn close but no cigar.

I was mowing at the farm. A large limb, perhaps 8 inches or more in diameter broke off as I was passing under the tree. I had not hit the tree. It was large enough that when it fell it destroyed my fiberglass canopy, knocked my vertical muffler off, and bent my steering wheel and dented the hood. It never touched me at all but my hands were on the wheel and did not miss me by much. A few inches different and it would have been bad.

We had a motorcycle get hit by a falling tree in front of the neighbors house a few months back. It landed on his front wheel, half a second later and it would have landed on his head.

Embarrasing, not life threatening. Long time ago raised free range pigs. Took a couple to slaughter and brought the trailer back to the yard to clean. We'd feed in the trailer for a couple of days before taking them. Made loading in a pasture easier. It was a smallish 12 x 6 trailer with a hinged on one side swinging door. Trailer was unhooked from the truck when I went in to clean it. When I walked to the front the trailer tongue dipped down, the trailer door slammed shut and somehow the locking pin bounced into place.
So, stuck in a very pig fouled trailer for 4 hours until the wife got home! Thanks be to God it wasn't middle of the summer!
Young relative of mine asked why didn't I just call someone on my cell phone? Would have had to invent one first!
Always put a block of wood in trailer doors after that . .

Back in '81 (I was 19) I was driving a Subaru Brat. Was heading to the carryout after work one day and a guy on a bicycle was in front of me. Not much traffic on the road. As I approached him, I moved to the left about a half a lane to go around him. Without looking, he pulls right in front of me to pull into a big parking lot. I slammed on the brakes and slid sideways. He and the bike hit my right front fender - bike flew off to the right and he went straight up and landed on my hood looking at me through the windshield!! Was just like in the movies! LOL! When I slid to a stop, he slid off the hood into the gravel. I got out as he was picking himself up. I said "are you OK?" and he said "I think I am, but I'm not sure about my bike." At that point I saw my destroyed fender and said "the heck with your bike - look at my car!!!" LOL!

The weird thing was that this happened as he was pulling into a large, overflow parking lot for the local university. As we were looking at his bike and my car, the a fire engine and rescue squad pulled into the other side of the parking lot for some reason and sat there filling out reports. I ran across the lot to the fire engine and excited and out of breathe said "I just hit a guy on a bike!! Can you guys check him out?" The fireman looked at me and said "the guy that's standing over there?" "YEAH!" "He looks OK from here." WTF??? We were about 100 yards away! LOL!

Local cops came by and took a report. Told the guy it was his fault - failure to yield - and he was responsible for my damages. He paid up without a problem.
