Re: Wife finally admits \"BX is a necessity\"

Thanks Junkman! I'll get another 2-3 feet of reach when working from the back of the truck!
That gave me another idea, why don't I take my extension ladder (fully extended of course) and place IT in the bucket to really reach those top branches?

Re: Wife finally admits \"BX is a necessity\"

Now you are thinking. Just tie a rope around your waist, throw it over a top limb, and tie it off to the bumper of the truck. That way, if the ladder breaks, or anything happens, the other person can drive to the nearest phone and call for help. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Junk,

( To do this, you put the machine in the back of the pick up and drive under the tree. )

On your advice I borrowed a VW Rabitt pickup and tried this. Pushed it so far into the lawn that I woan't even need to lift the deck to mow over it.

Being inventive I next drove the Kubota up on the hood of my car. This worked better than expected. In fact I think i'm going to leave it there permenantly. It offsets the weight of the 4 wheeler on the trunk.

No pics yet. My wife has the camera, and she is still up in the bucket.

What is going on in NYC.

Re: Wife finally admits \"BX is a necessity\"

Not for cleaning windows but I have done it. I did some tree trimming from the bucket. However, I never really had the bucket higher than what I could climb into. I had the bucket level and the tractor off.

Re: Wife finally admits \"BX is a necessity\"

I have a question. I appreciate safety as much as the next guy. And I like the tongue in cheek going on in this post.

But who exactly decided that standing in a stable 4 ft platform ie the BX bucket is inherently more dangerous than standing on a spindly step ladder. I hate using a step ladder outside - even with the plywood base that Brian used. They always feel unsteady. Surely the BX bucket must be as least as safe as that.

I mostly use a 4 seection folding " W" ladder for this type of work. Even with it's very wide stance it can feel unstable outside. I will probably give the BX bucket a try when doing the winterization of my house.

Re: Wife finally admits \"BX is a necessity\"

I just checked the tractor safety police bulletin board and it has a note that it is perfectly safe to stand in the bucket of a BX tractor as long as you are wearing BX Flier Sneakers.

On a serious note... IMHO, it is perfectly safe as long as the operator and standee are in communication of when it is going to be in movement. Whenever I have seen people use a bucket as a man lift, the person in the bucket will crouch so if there is any jerking motion, it won't throw them off balance. Nough said?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Now back to making light of the things we do and tell others not to do.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I guess Kevin decided that he would try to cover all bases. So he used his bucket AND a ladder! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: Wife finally admits \"BX is a necessity\"

Safety regulations were designed to educate people and keep them safe. Unfortunately It has become a way for the dumb and lazy to become millionaires.

My brother (Attorney) told me if I want to be rich to go into Walmart pour maple sirup on the floor, go some where else, (outside sporting goods etc.) for 15 minutes. Go back and slip and fall. His firm just got a huge settlement for some xxxxbag in a very similar Scenario.
