Ditto here, if my wife feels uneasy, she will call 911, even though she has several guns if needed. You dont know who else is in the vehicle, and even a trained LEO can be ambushed. My wifes 1st defense is the cover provided by the house. Maybe being ex-leo, I think different.

It pretty much does make a difference for most. Seeing what can happen even in a justified shooting is really sobering and knowing Officers who had their guns taken away and used on them really makes you think.

Glad everything worked out.
Ultimately if your wife is going outside to meet the "unknown", I'd suggest she might as well go out with a shot gun and not be "under gunned".
I've always told my wife it's safer inside and let the potential threat come to you.
Too many variables can come into play with the "unknown" going out of the house IMO.

Glad she is Ok, and Kudos to her for having the stones to do what she did.
As part of the after action debrief, I would think about not going out of the house - fairly well covered above as to why: ambush, legal issues, etc. If you do go out, stay a good distance away. With a gun, distance is your friend.
You know on average an attacker can cover 7 or 8 steps before you can get your gun out? That's 20 - 30 ft. Granted she didn't have to go far with the gun here (no holster, etc), but we usually teach 50ft if you have to be exposed. Yeah - I know, you're saying she can't hit anything at 50 ft. So what, if you were the attacker, would you want to give her the chance? Or the time to aim?

Yes, I talked to her about her decison to go outside to meet this creep. She sid she wanted the kids away and at a safe distance. I sure can't fault her for that.
She also said she didn't get any closer than 30ft. and had it in her mind that if he decided to make a run at her she would of had a better chance of gettting a few rounds into him outside the house. My wife is no girlie girl when it comes to things like this... she is more than capable.
She also said she wasn't so much scared as she was concerned that this guy thought no one was home and was gonna clean out the garage.
But she didn't know any of this until she stepped outside and made contact with him. He very well could have simply been lost and needed some help finding his way. this has happened before.
We do have a Mossberg 835 tactical shotgun in the bedroom in case it ever gets real hairy inside the house. She can light you up with that pretty good also if need be.

Glad she did what she did and is ok, too many fishy and creepy folks out there. Great thing about Tx. is that after dusk we just shoot them and get it over with lol
