I'm only wanting a thermometer to keep an eye on the temperature inside my pole barn. I recon a wifi thermostat would work if I could find a cheap one that way I could hook it to my furnace when I get it installed.

I like the way your thinking.... If you know your going to install a furnace / heater out there at some point; I would definitely look at putting the money into a Wi-Fi thermostat. This plan gets you the info you are looking for right now & when the system is installed it will do that & control your heating system... IMO that beats buying something twice...

Not sure how your electric suppliers do things there, but right now in CT our supplier is offering all sorts of rebates on thermostats... just something to check on.
