There are many tractor related questions that I can get answered by a quick search in Wikipedia. Not knowing how to look for this one, I'll ask you guys.
If i give Wikipedia a donation, will they stop pestering me with dropdown appeals for money every time I use the site. What's the minimum amount that will stop them for a year?

I know some of you use other.sites but I like the Wikipedia format and if I don't trust their answer, "then" I'll try another site.

I give them a donation annually, and then don't hear from them for a year. When they are in a fundraising episode, they might still pester you, as not everyone keeps the cookie trail in their browser, or use more than one browser. YMMV.

I sometimes donate to them. Trouble is, I'm always clearing cookies and have to keep things running smoother. So even if I donate or buy, I'm still given the ask.

I've never trusted them enough to use them.

I'm always clearing cookies, too. That means, I'll probably. continue being a freeloader.

I edit and correct things I am an expert in. I'm not personally a fan of the automated entries, as they are often not informative, at least to me.

Sure Wikipedia isn't perfect, but that's true of many sources. In my view, at least they are trying to organize and be accurate.

All the best,

Peter

Wikipedia for tractor questions?
Other than general information on the tractor companies headquarters, dates, etc, .. Ive never considered it useful for specific tractor questions.

I simply type in my browser search box what I’m interested in, and let it return the website results
AI summarized is now typically the first result, and sometimes pretty useful

I remember when going to college for my undergrad the professors made Wikipedia out to be the devil. It was in the early years for Wikipedia. Later when i got my graduate degree many the Professors stated they used wikipedia when looking at a new subject, but always read the reference links.

I use it for lots of things, however if it is technical, or going to cost me $$ if wrong I use a multitude of other sources. My biggest use is for general education about history.

CCleaner by Piriform is a nice machine cleaner. You can specify which cookies to keep. I've set my most used sites, shopping and catalogs as "keeper" cookies. It also lets you remove all the unused hooks in the registry for errant or deleted software.

Instead of donations, I correct their stuff every now and again when I see an error.

I'm not asking for any money so I feel like we are good.
That's the rub IMO. That website is written and edited/modified by folks just like here on TBN, so why not skip that and ask here.

For anything critical, or academic work that will result in a course grade, that's excellent advice. Go read the sources cited in the Wikipedia writeup, and draw your own conclusions. Otherwise 99% of the time the Wikipedia article is a sufficient overview of the topic.

I donate occasionally to Wikipedia and Internet Archive, and have never been spammed by either.

I use Wikipedia selectively. For general info on non-controversial topics, it is perfectly fine to quickly answer questions or get you up to speed at a high level on a topic that is new to you. Anything remotely political or that can be made political will inevitably have the hard left slant typical of media. So if I want the date Ronald Regan was born and died, sure, but anything about his policies or politics, no way.

"Reality has a well known liberal bias." :)

This guy warns that AI gets much of its 'knowledge' from posts on Reddit and Quora - posts made by non experts. Many of them liberals! :)

In effect, influencers who post a lot are having greater effect than the traditional verified sources.

Do you really not get it? For a resource like this to be most truly useful, it needs to be UNbiased, not biased in one direction or another.
