Its been a while but I think my Dodge Cummins diesel owners manual said a 10% mix of gas to diesel wouldn't hurt anything. Don't feel bad. I haven't used my chain saw for a couple of years and I filled it with gas with no 2 cycle oil today. Brain engaged just a couple of seconds before I started it.

Over here they call it "a senior's moment"

My wife is less gentle. She calls it "stupid". I will be glad when I get to the "senior moment" stage of my life. The word "stupid" needs a rest.

One of my guys was in Europe where most of the cars are diesel and grabbed the unleaded nozzle by mistake. He put a couple liters in the diesel tank before he realized his mistake. Hey, it was only a rental car, so he paid for the 2 liters, then filled the remainder of the tank with diesel. No problems showed up - he had the rental for an additional 2 weeks and did a lot of driving.

in the old days.. be for fuel tank heaters , us long haul truckers would putt 5 gallons of gas in each tank . to keep fuel from gelling.. and alcolhol in the air lines.
and transmission fluid in the steering box.
kept you moving.

I worked for a major truck stop company, and mistakes happened here and there. A driver would cut loose a transport load of gas into the diesel tanks once in awhile in some state. They might fire you for that, but would not pump out the tanks if the total mix was 5% or less of gas.

VW used to require something like 5-10% gas in the winter for its diesels. New ones don't need it though.

Yep. BIG safety issue with putting gasoline in diesel. The fuel space in gasoline tanks is too rich to combust. The fuel space in diesel tanks is way too lean. Put gasoline in the diesel, and you'll have a nice combustible gas space in the tank. A bomb waiting for a spark.

Use kerosene if you want to winterize the fuel, 30-50%, or a diesel fuel additive.
