Will DEF harm a CUT?

DEF is used in the exhaust system to lower the Nox and particulate matter. Diesel pickups started around 2010, larger trucks maybe a bit sooner and a lot of tier IV tractors.

Basically it's a form of fertilizer for use in equipment. Some people purchase out of date DEF to put on their fields.

DEF = Diesel Exhaust Fluid.
It is a mixture of Urea (same stuff as in Urine), and water.

I think it goes into a catalytic converter to clean up the exhaust before it gets to the diesel particulate filter. If you don't have the clean emission stuff, then you don't need it.

I'm not convinced mounting the exhaust pipe so it blows diesel smoke into one's face was the wisest design choice. :p

Some tractors and pretty much every truck sold in the last 10 years do require def. But it doesn’t mix with the fuel ever on any machine. There’s a separate tank with a blue cap for def. Mixing def with the fuel will result in the absolute best case scenario the engine stalling out on the water. Catastrophic damage to the fuel system is likely.
So it's not combusted? What does it actually do? I saw a video that showed a guy in a diesel pickup truck, talking about how the DEF level goes down over thousands of miles.

Gotta admit, just seeing the pics as presented, those are a little confusing.

Also, why would you mix On Road with Off Road? Kinda defeats the purpose, no?
I used to buy off road and I had my fuel gel several times. I switched to on road and haven't had any gelling. Maybe it was coincidence, but it was such a pain dealing with the clogged fuel line that I'm willing to pay the extra anyway. I'm superstitious.

I’ve only put def in my truck one time since I bought it. It doesn’t use much. The claimed rate is 2 percent of def compared to fuel. I don’t understand the exact process but it’s injected into the exhaust not the engine.

I meant more about the directions saying to pick Tractor Fuel, REFR or 'Both'.

But ya, lotta times the Off-Road stuff wont have anti-gel in it unless requested, which is hard to do at a pump.

Its injected into the exhaust where the heat breaks it down into Ammonia and Isocyanic Acid. The Isocyanic Acid reacts with the water and forms carbon dioxide and more ammonia. The Ammonia reacts with oxygen and the catalyst in the SCR to turn the NOx into Nitrogen and Water..

Depending on supplier. Any more the difference between Off-Road and On-Road is Dye and Excise Tax. Un-Dyed fuel works just fine Off-Road.

THANK YOU ALL! For saving me from a very expensive mistake. I agree that it is awfully odd to have one hose and a tank that dispenses DEF or regular diesel. I'm going to drive back and take pictures, which I'll post. I'll also talk to the store personnel to see if they can explain it to me. Thank you all again. I will follow up in a day or two.
If it is dispensed through the same Hose > anyone buying there after
someone bought DEF is getting a lot of water in their Tank/can ... think between the Valve and hose end is about a Quart. I only buy alcohol
free gas from stations that have a dedicated pump
. [when I was in college a roommate would go across the street when the gas station closed and drain all their hoses think he got a Gallon a night $$]

I revisited the station. The manager was not there and nobody could give me any information. I'm attaching photos and a closeup of the instruction on the pump. There is only one hose, but it looks like the pump offers DEF and diesel. Two prices are on the pump as well. I tried pushing the DEF button and nothing happened, What do you all think?
I think after someone buys DIF there is a Lot of Water in that Hose....if you only filled a 2 Gallon you would be buying a Lot of water. This is Not right and should be Reported.
