That redback looks like a cousin to the black widow spider, another nasty spider.

Hmmm, sounds like you don't like Moen, but that's my first choice. I have had one single leak, but called Moen, talked to a very helpful person who promptly sent new parts at no cost and they're very easy to install. Another time, I had one of the plastic knobs on a shower faucet crack and got the same results with Moen; prompt, courteous service at no cost.

Nope, David, I don't remember anything about a cartridge removal tool. I know I had no problem changing them. In fact, I called Moen because a lavatory faucet was dripping in a bathroom. The person I talked to asked if it was the hot water or cold water, and I didn't know, since it was separate knobs but one outlet and I hadn't thought to check the water temperature of the drip. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif In other words, I hadn't done my homework before calling. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif But they just said, "No problem, I'll just send both new ones." And they did. Then to further add to my feelings of incompetency, when I got the new ones and put them in, I found that I probably didn't need them anyway. I probably only needed to clean the originals because it was a new mobile home and there was a little debris in the water line. I've changed a few faucet washers, but that was my first experience with the cartridge type. And I never had another problem with any of the faucets except that one broken shower knob. I later removed a bathtub from my Mother's mobile home and replaced it with a walk-in shower, and naturally I bought Moen, then still later, my brothers and I removed a bathtub and replaced it with a walk-in shower in my sister's house and again used Moen. That time, we messed up again; one of my brothers, in sweating copper, put too much heat in the wrong place and I had to replace the cartridge in a brand new Moen, but I went and bought one; couldn't ask Moen to replace that one for free. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif And when a son-in-law learned that I had replaced tubs with walk-in showers, he enlisted my assistance to do the same in one bathroom of his parents' house. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I did the copper sweating on that job myself. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif The hard part on the two site built houses (on concrete slabs) was chiseling out the concrete to move the drains.

As with tractor brands, I'm sure there are others as good, but anytime I need an indoor faucet, hydrant, or whatever you want to call it, I'll be looking for Moen.

Here's a link to the cartridge removal tool. The replacement cartridge was about $4.00. The removal tool was about $20.00 at my local Ace Harsware store. In their defense, however, the tool works great. Had that cartridge changed in about a minute. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
