Is this a recent event, or has it been going on for a few months? I recently "upgraded" one computer from 8.1 to 10. During the update the screen was black for quite awhile until I turned it off and back on again. I would suggest checking some of the following -
Windows update is now automatic, but you can choose (and should) when to do a reboot to finish the update installs instead of letting windows reboot immediately.
Check the device driver listing to be sure your video card is working properly and does not have a yellow splat next to it, meaning it is not working properly.
If this event just started, you can try a restore point back to before the problem occurred if you have one back far enough.
You can also run a windows update manually to see if any updates are listed or if it shows any that were downloaded but did not install properly. Older windows sometimes listed updates that failed installation.
See what the "sleep" time is on your monitor setting. You may want to change it just to see if anything changes. Mine did not go into sleep mode even though it was set to 10 minutes after the upgrade. Once I switched the time setting, it began working fine again.
I'm sure some better versed computer guys will have better suggestions too. Good luck.
