This is not a new topic of course, but just wanted to show my setup as it works well. I have a hyd unit, a koenig 8000 on this unit. It is a bit slow as the gearing is 36 to 1 and has a larger hyd motor. On the front in the loader frame I have one that is 9 to 1 with a smaller hyd motor. It is much faster and pulls as hard as I would like. I have built other rear units with 10,000 electric units as they are more ready available. I don't think Koenig is in the business anymore.
This setup has a small boom that is from where the toplink hooks to the tractor and pivots across the top of the winch frame. I have a large hook on the end of it for using tongs and a large chainlink welded on to hang a small pulley. This acts as a fairlead also. As you can see I can pick my logs off the ground with the boom and in this pic it is not all the way up. With the tongs on I can go all the way to the ground with them and raise them about 4ft.
