Never 10 writes code to Windows telling it not to allow the OS (Win 7) to upgrade.
This will block any attempts to change to W10. Will not stop the download but will prevent the install.

There is a list of 47 updates apparently waiting to be downloaded and installed on my Windoze 7 computer. Most are labeled "security update." Is there a way to determine if any of those is the phantom windoze 10 download?

Window 10 will be identified as Win 10 or GWX.
You can go to the update screen and deselect the W10 items and install the security updates for W7.

KB 3035583 is the Windows 10 update prep files. I hid the update but it would start downloading anyway. I made the registry entries to prevent updating my system with a new OS. When I installed the updates KB 3035583 downloaded anyway and the screen said "Downloading Windows 10". I installed the optional patches and again the screen said "Downloading Windows 10".

I have used Steve Gibson Research utilities for a number of years and found them to be reliable and perform as advertised. Never 10 is free, however it creates the same registry entries you can make with gpedit.

Checked my update history and sure enough kb3035583 is there. My fingers are crossed but so far so good. Win 7 is holding steady.

Well Windows 10 snuck into my laptop 2 weeks ago, and my wife's yesterday. So far all apps appear to be working okay, with only a few times my PC has seemed to freeze.

Any suggestions on how to minimize the privacy issues?

my wifes laptop just updated. we lost a few apps.. one dealing with bluetooth and something from asus... will see if they cause problems.

I do not use it so can't help much, but there is a lot on the internet about it. Here is one such link on the basic customization that Microsoft allows.

never 10 is a download that will kill the 10 download and wipe it off your computer. If 10 is downloaded but not installed it will kill that too.Very simple to use . It must be for me to use it.

I read an article a while back that states Windows 10 can remove software like competitors software. I'm not sure because it wasn't my laptop but I know someone that says oracle database kept getting removed from their windows 10 laptop.

I couldn't find the original article I read but this one talks about the unauthorized removal of software.

I saw your other thread about that. When my son's laptop updated from 8 to 10, it went through some updates for a couple days afterwards. I think it does a "first things first" process and then if auto updates are enabled it cleans up things for a few days afterwards. His works great now.

I don't worry too much about apps not working as you can usually find replacements. It's when a piece of not so cheap hardware doesn't work any longer when no drivers are available for Windows 10 .

If y'all got upgraded to Win10, you may want to install this video player since Win10 did away with the ability to play DVD's and some other video media.....
