Windows 11 Office 365 Question

Turn off Files on Demand, everything is on your local hard drive. I have that done that on my desktop and laptop. On my phone it is on demand. It is great having everything synced with OneDrive. My current version is 24.108.

That would be an immediate 'remove One Drive" moment for me.
Somewhat same thing Adobe's doing, unless you agree to their EULA which gives them the right to access your files using AI for " product Improvement" you can't open your files.

. Not to mention having to pay $300 a year for the privledge of using their crap.

I pay $99/yr for a MS 365 subscription. It allows 5 copies so all 3 desktops and both laptops have Office. Cheaper than buying individual software for each computer. It comes with 1 GB of OneDrive storage.

As a side note, have Windows 10 (my IT guys says don’t upgrade to 11) but use OneDrive.

Love the cloud access from any device. Just my $.02

Just a case of convenience vs privacy/security. Personal choice but the default has swung to convenience.

Not really a good sub-forum to ask this but better that any other I could figure.
My Windows 11 computer/laptop did an update early Friday morning. Weird stuff started to happen and I finally figured out it was moving all my data files to the OneDrive cloud. Not copying them but moving them and deleting them off the computer, My antivirus says that my computer is clean, I have been fighting with OneDrive for months as it defaults and wants me to save things there instead of my hard drive and I refuse but the s/w does not make easy. I keep them on my HD and back that up. Now without even knowing that it was doing this migration this started. It acts very myuch like a trojan horse. I guess M/S is a trojan horse.

Anyone else had this happen?
Anyone know how to stop and permanently prevent it other than disconnecting from the internet as this started without any action on my part?
Any idea how to get then back on the HD other than copying them and all folders manually?

I've had a copy of Microsoft Office (don't recall which version) on my desktop computer for a few years now. And I've been using Outlook (part of Microsoft Office) for my email. A few months ago I began getting messages that I needed to change from the "old" Outlook to the "new" version. Since I was having no problems with the "old" version I ignored the messages. Then one day when I opened Outlook it told me I had to log in (which I had never had to do before). But despite entering the correct log-in credentials it would not let me in - the log-in screen would immediately reappear. Researching on-line I found this to be a common problem. Turns out the "old" version is "incompatible" with the newest Windows updates. So reluctantly I went ahead and downloaded the "new" Outlook. AND immediately began receiving emails that in fact were ads. When I clicked on the "Delete" button to get rid of the ad I would get a Windows message that they would get rid of the ads for me....for a $4.99 a month subscription! So money is what this is all about. I believe Microsoft deliberately did updates to disable using the old Outlook so people are forced to update to the new version and either put up with ads or pay a monthly subscription.

As far as OneDrive, I had to disable that. Especially this time of year I'm often camped out somewhere with no cell service and certainly no internet and I need my files with me. How do I get them off OneDrive with no internet??

I may have to learn how to use Linux yet!

I just now deleted one drive from my computer. However, a note from microsoft says "You won't lose files or data by uninstalling OneDrive from your computer. You can always access your files by signing in to OneDrive.com." I do not understand.

Your computer comes with software for OneDrive installed on it. It drives the process of keeping specified folder of your hard drive synced with OneDrive.

Alternatively, you can just use a browser to access/manage the files that you have stored in the cloud. With this approach, there is no automatic syncing. The cloud contains whatever files you put there.

I chose to just disable the automatic startup of OneDrive and left the software installed.

Go to Settings, Apps, Startup, and uncheck OneDrive.

I also have an older version of Office that I supposedly own vs. an annual subscription. I don't use Office that much anymore, and I will look for an alternative if/when they break it.

On my laptop I replaced Office with an alternative called LibreOffice. It has its own problems, including compatibility with Office documents and others. It is advertised as "free"....but I'm constantly bombarded with requests for "donations".

Are you actually doing any thing that Libra, or, Free Office, or, Open Office can also do. I don't understand how MS even sells this stuff any more.
