A few months ago the crew here at TBN helped me solve an immediate problem that I had for accessing files across my home network. It was discovered that a program called 'services' was not being launched when one of my computers was booted. The computers network name is Oscar. The work around that I have been using to get access to Oscars files across the network is as follows:

My computer
Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Services

I then scroll down to server, right click and select start. I have created a shortcut on my desktop to the final menu but I still must do this every time the computer is booted. There are options in the properties menu to automate this process, but it produces a message that I can't get past. (See attachment)

I now have time to look at this problem a little closer. Any suggestions?

Is your Server service set to Automatic in the Startup Type?

I have another computer that runs Windows 2000 also. This program starts automatically on that one.

Yes Mike, it is set to automatic, but it does not start. When I try to set recovery options, such as retrying, I get the message in the first post.

What's the Event Log indicate for why it's not starting automatically?

You also have Computer Browser as Automatic and Started, right?

Computer browser is set to automatic but it will not start on its own either. Starting 'server' solves my problem so I did'nt even mention that one. (you are too sharp, Mike)

The Event Log should reveal what's causing the problem.

Ok, you got me on the 'event log.' Where do I find that?
