There's a system log and an application log and a security log. Choose the one you want from the pull down menu. Probably the system log is a good place to start.

The application log reports many 'PerfNet' errors.
The system log reports 'Dnscache' warnings.
The security log is empty.

That error is not what there looking for you should have an error about a service not starting. In the meantime try to remove all networking from the machine. I.E. in properties of the local area connection everything in the list then reboot and reinstall them. If you do not know your settings write them down first. The error you are showing is related to a name server an address that translates IP to www.???. It should be set to either a public server or an internal server depending on your setup. But it does look as though you have a miss configuration in your network setup

Mike, my adapter for 'local area network' is set exactly as your example. I also have a 'dialup' adapter that I use for a back up internet source. It has the same TCP/IP configuration, but other options such as 'client for Micrsoft Network' and 'file and printer sharing are not 'checkmarked' (they are checked for the Lan adapter)

To clarify: I use the Lan adapter to access the internet from my network. I use the dial-up adapter if my Direcway Sattelite is down for some reason.
