I recently bought a new computer running Windows XP (Service Pack 1). Everything has installed and run without problem until last night. I installed PhotoShop 3.0 and received an error message stating "Not Enough (RAM) To Start Program".

This is laughable since it ran flawlessly on my old Win98 machine. My new unit is a 3GHz Pentium 4 with 1 GB of RAM and 160 GB HD. The virtual memory is set to allow 2500 MB to be used as RAM.

I know PhotoShop 3.0 was originally written for Win95 but I know my way around it very well and would like to continue to use it if possible. Anyway, do any of you tech guys have any suggestions?

So are you managing your own virtual memory instead of letting XP manage it?

Right click the Icon and pick properties then select compatibility there you will see some settings to try. good luck

Yep, I have the same problem with Adobe's PhotoDeluxe. The problem is your Gig of Ram (which is what I have). When the program goes out to check how much RAM is available it only has a 9 digit counter - your RAM amount is 10 digits. It truncates the 1 and sees that you have have 24 MB of RAM.

2 things you can do - remove RAM from your machine (I wouldn't recommend that) or upgrade to a newer version of the software package.

It came with virtual memory pre-configured which I thought was odd too. I did switch to allow WinXP to manage the memory and it made no difference.

Thanks, I'll try that tonight, but based on what jwstewar is saying, it sounds like my PS3.0 days are numbered. I have a copy of PS 5.0 but like all upgrades the improvements are in direct proportion to reduced usability.

On a related note, are there any PhotoShop users out there that know if the toolbars from an older version can be imported to a newer version?
