Pea gravel,,is what I've been using past several years,,comes in 50 lb bags at lowes,,got a long bed f150,,think I had about 400 lbs in end of bed last year,,have had 200 lbs all summer,,when plastic bags puncture,,I pour them in a picneck area ,,,got a toyato,about 100 lbs works on it,,but think I had 200 lbs in end of bed on it,,6 ft bed tacoma,,,the longer the bed,,the more weight you need,,the ford has an 8 ft bed,,,both four wd.,,300 or 400 hundred lbs,,really helps,,,you can always,for a short time,,reduce air in tires,,instead of maybe 35 psi,,reduce it to say,,30 psi,,,don't do a lot of interstate driving with low tires though,,,,or,,,just put it in 4wd,,,,thingy

pea gravel and four 18 inch concrete blocks aren't the same thing.. I laugh at these city slickers who convince themselves that a 18" concrete block for weight will also be easily thrown under a spinning tire for traction,,, that was the jist of my earlier post

I get a couple of feed sacks and fill them with bank run sand and put it between the fenders and the cab. $ 3 or $4 and you could probably fill a pickup bed with bank run at a gravel yard. I fill the feed sacks in the bed of the truck and through the excess out in the driveway.
Blocks and chunks of wood are very dangerous if you had a wreck,if you hit something head on the blocks or wood could come through your black glass or who knows where else they might go.

When I have any traction problems I just pull the 4X4 lever back one notch. It's amazing how the weight shift of moving that little lever back 2" increases traction /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Shuckings, we all up here been safe for ever. Just means driving slower and using the proper type and amount of weight when driving on the backcountry bush roads ehhh.
Helps to put caulks on the horse shoes too.
