Winter Storm of Feb 1-3

Going to town this morning. Taking my diesel can. Pick up a few things. It's only prudent. We can function without electricity. Can't run the well pump, so we'd fill a few jugs. The bladder tank will put out 10 gallons easily. I have a 50,000 btu LP space heater that is our furnace. It doesn't need electricity to operate. This was an intentional purchase. I love it.

I used to use kerosene heaters for emergencies, and was grateful for them on a couple of occasions, but the smell gave me headaches.

My wife and I are both changing our travel plans scheduled for this week. I see no reason to engage this mess and find myself sleeping at an airport. Been there, done that.

Roy, no. The brunt of it will be to our south, but we should pick up a nifty 8-10 additional. One never knows how these storms wobble.

We were scheduled to head downstate at daybreak tomorrow. Me to catch a flight and the wife to visit family. There are several issues for us, including me being stuck out of state on Wednesday.

As an experienced flyer, I know when to just not get "stuck" in the airline system. No way Wednesday flights are going to function through Detroit or Chicago, major hubs. There will be planes and crews stuck everywhere and planes out of position. I doubt things will return to "normal" until Friday at the earliest. I'll pass, thank you.

Last nights weatherman said in our area upstate N.Y. was going to receive 18" from this storm. All snow from the I-90 Thruway North, mix from the South. I don't mind moving it or snow blowing it, just concerned as others for the weight on roofs. Cleaned mine off yesterday, but just hate going up there, my luck just to fall.

I'm in the heart of it. No ice but predictions of snow all over the place 12"-24". I hope the BX is up to it with a rear blade and end loader. One thing I've learned from this forum is to keep ahead of it, and don't wait until the end to start plowing.

Here in the Philippines, forcast is continued hot (90 degrees each day), possible drifting of sand on the South China Sea beaches. Don't have to deal with Virginia weather for another two weeks. Cold showers and warm drinks continue.

Here is Foster R.I., the elementary school down the street suffered structural damage from the weight of the snow on the roof overhanging the library. So the brilliant building inspector for the town decided it would be a good idea to spray water on the roof to dissolve the snow......... I think you guys can figure out the rest of the story :confused2: Now we have this ice, snow, rain storm coming, should be fun.

we are on the line of Ice and Snow. Don't mind the snow but with ice comes power failure. Thinkin about headin to town to find a generator. Need one anyway heat with wood so that shouldn't be a problem. Only concern I have is this new to us house we are in. Don't know if well pump is 110 or 220:ashamed:... Plenty of diesel and gas on hand

We are supposed to get 4" of snow Monday night with possible freezing rain. To get another 8" of snow Tuesday night. This will be a true test for the Massey. Because of the mild weather we have been having, snow has melted around shed doors and then refroze. Had to chip the ice away at bottom of door to get tractor out Saturday and will probably have to do it again tommorrow. I have never had a problem like this before this year. The water is not flowing away from shed, seem to be flowing into shed this year.

More proof that common sense is being bread out of the average American.
This is not the first time I've heard of some person suggesting removing snow from a roof by wetting it down. :confused2:

Woke up to 8 inches of really fluffy (better than 20:1 ratio) snow this morning with more on the way, interstate was down to 1 lane. Heading home at noon today to beat the wind that is coming later today.
