Winter Tractor Tips – How Do You Handle Snow, Storage, and Maintenance?

Well for me winter is here full force... I don't do much at all, have a block heater and a antifreeze heater and 0w-40 oil, the battery used to give me issues as it was getting very old but I just replaced it, with 4X4 I don't have the need for chains, I have some but I don't put them on, it would help but I don't feel the need... I put winter purchases diesel in and I never have problem with that... what else, I keep it in the barn but its more to have power near by but it's nice for it to stay snow free...

My only winter snow removal trick is to keep the snow bank away from the dominant wind so for me is the West so the my snow banks are on the east.

I keep my tractor in an insulated pole barn that never gets below freezing. If you are in a cold climate, an insulated building is the best investment you can make.

Thanks for taking the time to post the pics. Mine are bolted on, and removing them takes maybe 10 minutes but there is nowhere to store the plates. Looks like with a welded on hinge and a little imagination I could do something similar.

I keep out tractor in the uninsulated shop when it gets cold. It lives in a car tent out the of sun and rain the rest of the year. I put some old shop jackets over the hood and around the rad if it gets really cold and add a light bulb under the jackets below the injection pump.

To me, needlessly cold starting an engine is cruel and unusual punishment. I often leave a tractor sitting for months at a time, and I'm sure they appreciate that when they eventually do get started they'll be running until fully warmed up.
