I am thinking I may invest in a wireless thermometer for smoking meats, etc. What do you recommend?

Here's the one I purchased originally:

Acu Wrls BBQ Probe Therm - Newegg.com

I really liked it; it was simple, easy to use and worked great in the smoker. The monitor of course is outside of the smoker, so it gives a continual read out. It is "wireless" in the sense that it has a remote indicator that you can carry with you, and it gives an alarm when the set temperature is reached. The remote alarm wasn't much of a help, so I never used it. I eventually broke the wires in the probe and so it it out of commission. I will probably buy another if I can't get a new probe. In the meantime, I purchased another "fancy" thermometer that was on sale. It works OK, but its a PITA to set...I have to go to the manual every time.

I got one of these from Lowe's a few months ago.

Meet The iGrill Family of Thermometers

I got the single probe version just to try it out. It works great, and I can monitor the temp via my Android phone. The only issue I had was with the spare phone I originally tried to use it with..... the OS of the phone didn't support the app, so I ended up using my new phone.

I've been very happy with it... :)

They make a 4 probe version.... as soon as I see it in Lowe's I'm going to pick it up. I think that one only comes with 2 probes, but I'll pick up 2 more with it.....

Here's the 4 probe version...

Maverick 733. My smoker is over 300' from the house and it works great from that distance.

Mine is a Williams Sonoma remote thermometer I got about 10 years ago. Works fine. Cost about $50 IIRC.

Been using this one for 8 years and so far no issues at all. Bought it at bass pro shops. When I first saw it, I said "Well I'll be damned" out loud, since I never knew there was such a thing.

+1 on the Oregon Scientific AW129. Had mine for several years now and it's still working great. Only thing to remember is that the remote needs to be paired to the receiver, and if you forget to do that it won't work. Also, I try to avoid dipping the probe in water while cleaning; I think I broke one several years ago when it got wet.
