wiring problem with LED's

Should have continuity between 85 and 86. If so, apply power to 85 and 86. Once power is applied to 85 and 86, 87 and 30 should have continuity. Disconnecting power from 85 and 86 should show no continuity between 87 and 30. You should also hear it click on and off as power is applied and disconnected from 85&86.

2 pins of the relay are the coil/electromagnet . These are connected to power from the light switch and one to ground. 86=battery 12volts when switch is ON. 85=ground which can be checked for continuity between it and the battery negative or the frame ground.
87 is main battery power coming in. Should be 12volts there constant. BUT if there is a switch like a main switch/key switch etc in that wire between the battery positive and the 87 terminal it has to be ON also to allow power to flow.

So. Power is sitting at 87. Power is sitting at light switch. Activating light switch sends power to 86 which makes coil inside pull the bigger contacts together between 87 & 30 allowing higher amperage power to flow to lights and return through light's ground wire to frame/BatteryNegative.

Lights have to be grounded. Relay has to be grounded. Hot at light switch going in. Hot at 86 when light switch is on. Hot at 30 constant.
Get these all and should be good.

Thank you gentlemen. I will give it a try. Yesterday when I started charging battery it took 6 amps on the trickle charge. It was at zero this morning when I unhooked it so thankfully not a dead cell in it. Not going to let this thing whoop on me.

I pulled the cap off the relay and it is a 4 pin relay and not a5 pin. Yes I did run longer wires and the red wire does have a fuse in it.

Just so happens I bought a Klein Tools 1000 mm multimeter last week as I needed to check the capacitors on a phase shifter that was used for dad's 3 phase equipment I his cabinet shop. I have limited knowledge on electrical circuits so what is your recommendation in going about checking the relay? --------------

I recharged the battery and that appears to have solved the problem. Unfortunately I cannot find the switch that I left on the battery console. Feel kind of stupid right now.
