That explains it, we're on the 2008 version of the code so I guess the answer depends on which version the OP's authority is using.

I absolutely agree that the code should be followed and if what you're saying is correct, I've misread code. I understand NEC to call for an isolated ground and have installed it as I described more than once with the advice and supervision of a licensed electrician and it always passed inspection...

After seeing Aczlan's post about the revision, and your post about it passing inspection, I guess the revision took place after your installations.
Sorry if I was too blunt. Just trying to be emphatic.

Soo all of Texas is stuck in 2008 ?????

Couldn't tell you about all of Tx, every county or city can adopt their own codes. The City of Houston is actually enforcing NEC 2006 and has begun the process of thinking about adopting NEC 2012. Change is slow in larger municipalities.

At my place in South Texas, there is no permitting or code enforcement so you can do whatever you want to. If your house burns down because of improper wiring, they figure it's on you.
