Okey Dokey. So even if I agree with ya you wouldn't take me seriously?? :) I'm hurt. ;)

Hey if I was closer I'd even help you do that 50 hour service. Bring all my own tools and everything. And we could even put on a Fumoto valve to if you wanted. Even help you dig out those thorny trees you have.

Perceive my personal comments as you may, but any technical info I give you is no bull.

Good Luck,
Rob

Houston is a hot, muggy city!

Maybe Rob needs to try Minnesota! ;)

Not trying to start a war, but really, I think proudestmonkey is gonna be alright!

I'd let him help me change the oil in my tractor any day! :)

The Fumoto valve on the BX with low ground clearance might not be the best idea - I agree on that.

I'll try anything once...just about. Minnesota? Well my family might be from up there. I have a very unique last name. Only 3 in Houston, Dad, me, brother. But up there there is a whole mess of them. Hundreds.
Hot here but I'm not sure I'd be into shoveling snow for months. Tractors in snow just looks funny to me but hey I was born in the cotton/bean fields of Mississippi. There was a lot of green/yellow sitting on dirt all year.

Hmmm, PM changing the oil on my tractor...the L2500 with 2 oil drain plugs.... How about I do all the work, he can hold down the beer cooler and tell stories! :):)

Hey Rob,

Thanks for taking my comments as I meant them!! I later worried that I shouldn't have said those things.
I've been to Houston many times - I'd take the snow personally. But I sure have enjoyed many great nights crappie fishing in Lake Conroe!! Of course that was about 30 years ago!!!

Not a problem, when new to the internet some folks try and read to much into comments. If we were standing next to each other while talking we'd be slapping each other and yacking like a couple kids.

My weekend place is in Anderson County, mile or so on the east side of the Trinity River. That's where we do our throw line fishing(we have private access if you can believe that).. Get up to Conroe every once and a while. We could use some snow now, cool things down and the melt would help water things. But what would I do if I didn't mow in October, November and some December?

Thanks for your encouragement, Terry. When I acknowledge that I am new to this, I am hoping for that kind of encouragement. It hadn't even occurred to me that someone might suggest I just give up trying to learn how to work on my tractor. Besides, Terry, you shouldn't need to worry that telling the forum I'll be alright will start a war, but I can understand why you felt the need to add the qualifier, just to keep the peace. I've been hanging around the internet for 10 years now, almost since the birth of the internet after growing beyond the CERN labs where hyperlinked pages first started. I learned a very long time ago to try to get along and be useful and helpful where I can be, but also to take things at face value, call a spade a spade, and then move on. There are just too many folks who use the private identity of the internet to cast aspersions on others to make themselves feel better and then try to backpedal when they are called on it. No biggie. I just tend not to shrink from telling it as I see it.

I wish I knew someone close by that had a tractor that I could learn from. I don't. Not yet anyway. Maybe over the years, as I get to know the neighbors better, I'll start sharing tractor stories. I already plan to ask my neighbor next door what kind of snow removal setup he has for his compact Kioti tractor.

So, the next best thing, and it is a very good thing, is to continue to read others threads and responses, and continue to learn from all of you.

No, I haven't. I figured the owner's manuals for the tractor and implements told me what I need for basic service, and for stuff more complicated, I'd leave that to the dealer. Do you think its worth it?

Hey PM, Did you notice that since you started this thread about 11 days ago it's had almost 5000 views? Got to be a record. You think folks are watching us? hehe :) If so I don't want to let them down....the internet has been around longer than 10 years. I can't remember exactly when Al Gore invented it, I'll have to check. :):)

And what about that private identity thing? My name is actually Rob (Robert) and my very unique last name does actually start with a J. And if you look at my email I am Rob in Houston (@yahoo.com). :) Now I'm willing to bet that your real name isn't Proudest Monkey. ;);)

But you know...all of my casted asperations actually do make me feel better. :):)

But all kidding aside and back to a serious note...if you really want to get into what your tractor is then I would suggest a shop manual. About $80 or so. I just ordered that and some parts from Messicks. With my overheating problem I'm going to pull the head and replace the head gasket(I plan on a photo documentation of that project soon). The manual gives me the torque specs and clearances that vary from engine to engine. Eventually I'll probably need it for something else. So if you plan on keeping your tractor for a while, it's worth it and may give you the confidence to tackle some more tractor repairs.

So lets keep those views coming in shall we!!! :):)

It hadn't occurred to me that the number of views had anything to do with you or I specifically, I just figured it was due to a collection of interesting observations, comments and information offered by a number of different people, including you and me.

As to the history of the internet, I'll readily confess I am no expert on that issue (or, really any other). I probably should have said "web--meaning world wide web" which, as I recall, really got going during the mid-nineties, which is about the time I first started visiting USENET and got my first ISP account through my local University.

There's a difference between a "view," "kidding around," and an offensive remark. Your suggestion to buy a shop manual is a view worth considering, in the same way it was offered as a suggestion by others here. Unfortunately, your other comments to me (mostly in another thread) have often been less polite than a "view," clearly not at all "funny" or "kidding around," and have at times amounted to an unnecessary and not very nice personal attack. And I don't think those are the kinds of posts most people around here want to read--including me. I don't mean to beat a dead horse here, or be a whiner, but I didn't want to pretend that some of what you've said to me amounted to "kidding around." Now, I will leave it at that.
