There's a difference between a "view," "kidding around," and an offensive remark.

Unfortunately, your other comments to me (mostly in another thread) have often been less polite than a "view," clearly not at all "funny" or "kidding around," and have at times amounted to an unnecessary and not very nice personal attack.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse here, or be a whiner, but I didn't want to pretend that some of what you've said to me amounted to "kidding around." Now, I will leave it at that.

Nope, was voicing my opinion, everyone has one. I hope you are not calling that a personal attack? You’ll have to show me where I made a personal attack. I’m usually pretty careful. But I’m not backpedaling either, in my opinion based on the information you provided in the other thread I would have handled it differently. By posting your experience on the internet you open yourself up to differences of opinions. Or maybe you are sort of soliciting advise. If you don’t want any comments then maybe you can lock the thread. Maybe only the admin can do this.

In this thread it is my opinion that it might be best if you let the dealer do all your work in the future. You'll have piece of mind, something to fall back on in case of a problem, and you will be protecting your investment. It's not a personal attack and it's not something that you have to do. If I was on a legal forum and had legal problems because I tried to file some paperwork and am now in trouble and someone suggested I get a lawyer I'd wouldn't take that as a personal attack. I might even take their unsolicited advise. :)

Rosey came in with a comment in this thread and you came down on him pretty hard. Did you consider that a personal attack? You ended with “But, um, thanks for the unsolicited advice anyway.” Again, you post on the internet you should expect any and all advice. In the other thread there were others that though your actions could have been handled differently. Personal attacks? Egon also suggested if you have any doubts about doing it then let the dealer change the oil next time.

Feel free to take this off line in a PM, I’ve already sent you one to try and do so. Or you can email me….rob_n_houston@yahoo.com.

Have a (not backpedaling) good day!

I agree, this has become a conversation between you and I. I've sent you a PM about messages you've posted in previous threads that I have found offensive.

Geez, 72 posts over a stripped drain plug. It's the thread that won't die. Now that it's down to recriminations it's time to put it out of its misery. Hate to think what it would be if PM had blown a hydraulic hose or bent a cylinder.

After reading this, PM, I agree!

I think you should have just yanked that drain plug out with some vise-grips, wrapped it with some teflon tape to create a good seal, and cranked it back into the tractor. I have repaired many a stripped drain plug that way.

For those of you who are curious, I thought I'd let you know that my dealer basically charged me a few dollars (as in literally less than $5) to fix the drain plug issue, and then charged me the going rate for the 50 hour service, plus freight charges for picking up the tractor. Nice!

Sounds like the dealer saw an issue that needed to be taken care of,and fixed it so they could keep the relationship with their customer in good standing, and also in the process helped to keep the Kubota name clear of any open complaints that would tarnish it.
That's how things should be done.

Exactly. Another possibility is that they are just honest folks who spent almost no time fixing the issue because the stripped threads were on the drain plug, not on the oil pan.

All in all, looking over the invoice in detail again, I am actually glad they did it. In addition to the oil and hydraulic fluids and filters, I hadn't planned to replace the fuel filters or the front axle gear oil. They did all that. They also greased everything and They also checked over a bunch of stuff (radiator, cooling system, antifreeze levels, tire pressure, and several other items) that I would not have done yet. The sales guy told me that they want to be sure that the tractor is in just as good shape as it was when they first delivered it to me. Good. Peace of mind.

Freight charge was $$$$$$$$$$$$$?

Pickup and delivery was $75 round trip (about 50 miles, on country roads, and through several towns, so maybe 1.5 hours of their drivers' time total). They charged me half their normal charge for that amount of time/mileage because, as luck would have it, the dealer has a lease contract with a large landscape center and I am close to halfway between them, so they have to come this way a few times a week anyway.
