As for ballast, I would never get a ballast box. This is not because they are not necessary, but that I would rather spend my money on another implement to balance the tractor and gain usefulness. You can always hang some home made concrete blocks on a box blade or mower. The least expensive is a 3 point fork setup. You can put weight on this for balance, or a box to make the tractor into a little pickup truck for hauling or carrying tools, or lift the edge of that old garden shed to fix the foundation.

Steve,

Totally agree with everything you said earlier -

I think the ballast box comes with the loader (200cx kit) these days, but I think the best ballast for Chris2520's sake would be the backhoe and load the tires with RimGuard.

yes the 2520 is far superior to it in power weight , lift and size. and it should be . not because i own one. because it is a more powerful comercial style machine.
I have seen you state "commercial and 2520" in the same sentence a few times now and I am just curious as to what makes the 2520 a commercial style tractor? I get the point it is bigger than a smaller tractor, just not sure I understand the commercial reference. Maybe it is a new tractor and that is why I haven't seen one on a rental yard yet? I have seen several Kubota B21s and larger size John Deere's at our local rental yard. Don't get me wrong I understand just because a company rents a particular model it don't mean its a commercial grade.

Ducati:

My backhoe is my favorite counterbalance. You can even reach back and rotate it to the uphill side when the going gets hairy when crossing a hill. I have all four tires loaded.

It certainly starts with Deere literature, Videos and website references

I will leave the rest of it for others to fill in if they choose. The 4115 was considered commerical grade as well, prior to its replacement by the 2520.

So you dont think the 4115 was as good as the Bx21 you mentioned earlier?
(the BX26 is in a different ball park -so lets not bring it up :)
If you say its not then I would rather hear what you think is commerical, and be done with the conversation

First I heard of putting a witch into the concrete. It'll work better if you let the witch ride in the seat with you and put some real concrete or gravel in that ballast box.
