Wix vs WixXP oil filter

I had Fram oil filter (Original Orange variety) fail on my wife's car (then girlfriends) about 9 years ago. It was on a Toyota Yaris 1.5L 4 cylinder engine running Mobil 1 5w-30 and Fram filter that her dad did the oil change. The oil filter literally blew off the engine, low oil pressure light came on, she drove to work for another 5 miles. Called me to let me know some light is on. Obviously, when I knew it was oil pressure told her not to run the car. I came her work did a oil change and put on a Mobil 1 filter. I am pretty sure it was the oil pressure relief valve that failed and caused the filter to shoot off the engine. I think the saving grace for the engine was the Mobil 1 oil in the car at the time. It had 25k miles when it happened. We still own the car as a winter beater and it has 125k miles now and still runs the Mobil 1 filter and oil for it's entire life. Shocked that it did not spin a rod bearing... but I am a firm believer in M1 products from that point on.

that wasent under warrenty from dealership? Was fram contacted?

Toyota would not have warrantied oil filter failure from another manufacturer without a proof. Contacted Fram, pretty much said SOL... Find filter and send it to them to examine. Yeah, I'm sure scouring a side of a busy road over a mile stretch of road would have been helpful for them by then who knows it was run over 50 times by then or somewhere in ditch or bush. Car still works great, no oil burn or other issues related to engine. Guess it was a bit of luck and a bit of M1 oil that saved the day from a complete bearing and piston ring melt down.
