Agree w/wannafish
The truth be known, he probably didn't have a drivers license and that tractor was their transportation (admit that is a bit of extrapolation, but seems this occured on the highway).
[And I rather doubt it happened as the description read - riding on the back and thrown forward ahead of the rear wheels]

The dangers of life are many, and we live until we die.

Kansas, need I say more...... Maybe she tried to tap her shoes 3-times. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I hope her tractor manual stated that it was not advised to ride on the tractor (if not driving) and it would void any warrenty.

It is sad that old people loose there minds. They should be home watching Price is right or playing bingo.

Wannafish: my post dated 11-18-2004, 07:13 am was not directed to you. It was directed to Gatorboy, who seemed to miss my point.

But, aw shucks dudes!
Yeah, they were ridin' on their tractor together so they could go git groceries....but seriously, I admit Ive taken lots of riders on my various tractors over the years. Gee, my dad used to tell me to git IN the FEL bucket. Id say no, I'll just ride on TOP of the bucket. Good grief. Im lucky I didnt ever get ran over by that stupid act. I guess, I was just wanting to inform that someone near me got killed by riding on the back of the tractor, according to the news article.

I wonder if she was maybe standing on the drawbar and when her husband, the driver, hit a rut then it threw her against the rear wheel, pulling her into the wheel's path? If the tractor was a big one, maybe it had duals on it and then it is even more feasible for my scenario.

Anyhow, yeah, its a true shame that it happened. Im hoping to learn from his mistakes. Maybe some of you can, too.

I didn't miss your point. It's just seems everytime some freak accident happens involving a tractor -- someone posts it and then ends the post with telling people to do, or not to do something depending on the article.

I've said this many times before -- accidents happen to people all the time. It's unfortunate, but they happen.

Yes, acccidents happen all the time. Really, the only reason to bring up the subject is to learn from it - if possible.

Personally, I thought the article was worth posting because it involved a rider on the *back* of the tractor being run over while the tractor was going *forward* down the road. Freak accident? Yeah, it was a freak accident but this one appeared preventable to me.

I will post this to myself, so no one is offended, however if the shoe fits, wear it.

It seems that there are some people on TBN that think that they are perfect in every way, they don't need reminders, and they never make mistakes. You can't tell them anything, nor can you ever post anything without them pointing out the errors that you might have made. In a perfect world, these perfect people would be just ordinary citizens. In this imperfect world, these people are the pillars of correctness and they exude confidence that they never have nor will they ever do anything incorrect. The only good thing that I can see of this, is it gives us mortal souls something to strive for... to become as perfect as they see themselves. Until I can reach that pinnacle of perfection, I am happy to be just a normal person that makes normal mistakes and learn from the errors of my ways. In my imperfect world, 1 + 1 still equals 2. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ok I’ll admit to a slight ding in my claim of perfection.

This story reminds me of the time my brother and I (early teen and pre teen) were both on the tractor taking turns driving. We were out in the field pulling some type implement, a plow maybe, I can’t remember, when we got into one of those ’ok it’s my turn’ type of fights with all the pushing and shoving and slugging required to gain control. All of this of course while the tractor was moving down the field. It's a scary thought thinking how bad that could of turned out.

I do remember we caught **** for that stunt.

I think we’ve all done things in our lives that could have prevented us from making it this far.

Cars are meant to carry passangers, tractors are not. Basic logic 101

Yes, you are correct .... as always.

I'm sure it's obvious to all of us that the passenger was riding alongside , on the deck, and so fell down in front of the rear wheel. Terribly sad, and avoidable.
As a project superintendent I am required to keep an eye out for tradesmen (and women) working in an unsafe manner. OSHA has many regulations to provide safer working conditions, and most people would rather not be inconvenienced by these safeguards. This is unfortunate. Wearing safety glasses, a body harness, tying off a ladder, setting up boundaries to keep danger at arms length (or further) saves lives every day. We should all make the sometimes inconvenient choice to be safe and live to work or play another day.
