Yes, you are correct. Future use of the PHD was the sugar that made the medicine go down a bit easier. In addition, I got some cool pictures of the PHD mounted on my machine.

Women like my wife are few and far between. For example, she was up at 5 AM today to tend to the chores (horses, chickens, etc.) and bake fresh blueberry muffins and make coffee for me and for the work crew when they showed up a couple of hours later. She did this all before getting ready to head out for her 9 to 5 job. This is a typical day for her. She will come home tonight and mow the lawn after tending to the horses. I will be working late otherwise she would have dinner ready for me as well.

So, in regards to her offering up *our* tractor ... with the above said, I have learned that only a few transgressions on her part warrant me blowing my fuse. I learned a long time ago to choose my battles wisely. Although on the inside I was not a happy camper about this incident, after some grumbling on my part, I kept my mouth shut. In the entire scheme of things, it really is no big deal. Besides, I knew I could come to this board and vent to folks that can relate.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Seems there only a few people on this thread that get it. All this Chest Pounding stuff like "My Wife wouldn't dare", "No One Drives My Tractor But Me", My Wife knows Better than", "Hope you are taking some off the price", "This and that happened to my brothers wife's second cousin", "I wouldn't rent my tractor out for nothing" makes for humorous reading. And it sounds really good.

Just a shame that you missed Transplant's point. Not to worry my friend, a few of us got it. For him, he wouldn't trade his wife for anything, including some scuffed paint on his new tractor. I wouldn't either. I'm currently in Iraq and my wife cares for our 20 acre property using "our" two tractors. She emailed me a couple days ago with a breakdown problem including pictures. Before I could call her, she figured it out and fixed it. If she emailed me today and said she had loaned the tractor and it got broken, I would support her decision. Just like when I tell her I just spent more money on an attachment that she doesn't understand, she supports my decision.

For the women on here that got it and refrained from joining in on the Chest Pounding in retaliation, you are a testimony to the fact that there are some great women living our country lives. Women that participate in the decision making process and are supported in doing so. Women that deserve quiet support even when the decision might not be favorable to us. Women that give us way more than we give them. Fortunately for Transplant and myself we happen to be married to two of them!!!! For those of you that might not be so blessed, I'm sorry. :)

The two concepts expressed are not mutually exclusive. The fact that a person supports his wife is not diminished by the fact that he may also not loan out his tractor.

The observation was made, and posted that he was a lucky man, based on his wife's actions.

I support my wife 100%.. she supports me... I wouldn't loan my tractor out.. she wouldn't loan my tractor out.. we are both very comfortable in this concept. She would however.. volunteer me and the tractor out to friends, as I would also offer, in response to someone asking to borrow my tractor.

As was said before.. I won't loan my wife out.. i won't loan my tractor out. I won't loan my pets out.. I have loaned vehicles out to realitives and select close friends. It's an intimacy issue.... And the chest pounding doesn't invalidate the concept.. it's just a point of understanding that my wife and I have reached.

<Hmmmmmm, I wouldn't think of using a client's tractor for doing my work without them not only offering, but insisting upon it.

But, it seems most of ya'll have a different attitude towards your tractors than I do. I let others operate and use my stuff all the time.

First thing is my stuff is designed for work. It's not designed for polishing. Part of the work design is about operators that will have different skill levels and is built to survive the abuse that sometimes comes with those skill levels.

I can understand the wife thing, makes perfect sense. Which also works into this discussion. Evidently the poster and his wife have been together long enough and understand each other well enough that she knew she wasn't transgressing when she offered the tractor to the contractor.

So I don't see this as a difference between men and women. I see it more about a perspective on equipment that varies with the individual. And most professionals have a lot more money in their equipment than occasionals do. And that equipment has to be used by others to pay for itself in most situations.

I'm just not sure I would hire the kind of contractor that shows up with no equipment in the first place.>

Exactly. In fact I would much rather have someone else do all my work for me. Much rather watch my tractor/truck being used than use it. Anybody want to come over and do some tractor work around here? I got the tractor if you got the time.

The thing that I like best about this site is that everyone has their own opinion, that's just the way it is. And as long as we all respect each others opinion we can all get along.

Just because I may not agree with your opinion, I'm not going to make some smart crack about it, and I would think that you would have more sense too. Then again, maybe not..... :)

I bend over backward to those that need help, there are a few TBN members that will testify to that. But where my tractor goes, I go and I don't think it brands me as a leper for it either.

Very well said. I listened really hard and I didn't hear any chest pounding at all!! :)

I used to lend anything out but not much anymore. Family and friends, good people all, can do more damage to my stuff in 1 use than I can in a decade of ownership. I can laugh now but there were a moments in time the thoughtlessness of people you extend a hand to got my goat. Last (5) loanouts on the pick-up were:
1. Rearview mirror sitting on the seat
2. Bed, step bumper, door, and seat painted with house paint with virtually no effort to clean up
3. Grease on the inside of the driver's door, dash, and seat
4. Foot long scratch on the outside of the bed to metal and a dent
5. Passenger sidewalls curb buffed to the extreme and it wouldn't steer straight.
Never once did it come back as I loaned it out. So can they use my tractor? Admittedly, the cars seemed to fair much better. They all drive nice cars though. So if the truck can take a pounding like that I can just imagine that mindset applied to a tractor.

I work my stuff rather hard and don't care much how pretty or clean it is on the surface, I just respect it and it usually returns the favor. Not always so with people. Wish it weren't so cause I find real joy helping people out.

A let a guy who I thought was a good friend use my backhoe. He can run it fine, he owns a diesel repair shop and isn't hurting for cash. He ruined one of my tires and replaced it with a brand new one. Then he got a flat in two other tires and ignored it.

When I got it back, he told me all about the new tire he gave me like he had really done me this big favor. But when I learned the next day that two other tires had flats, he said it wasn't his fault. I had to replace one of the tire and have the other fixed.

Now I don't have anything to do with him, and consider it a learning experience.

My dad is about the only other person to drive my tractors, and he does enough damage to them to keep me wrenching anyway. hahaha
