Eddie,
What conditions can you conjer up using your backhoe that would cause 3 ties to go flat? That jsut seems so odd to me.

Ron,

Your always welcome here. I'm taking on more jobs than before and can't say for sure if I'll be around or not. It would be good to have somebody who can move some dirt running the dozer if I'm out on a job.

Rox,

He said he needed to bury some garbage and load a bunch of tires that had been dumped on his land. He should have just cleared it as he went, but he was sloppy, and even worse, he had his employees run it. They all just drove over everything regardless of what it was. The front tires were just tore up, the back tire had a nice puncture hole in it.

It was just a lack of concern and a feeling of invincability. It's a tractor, so it can drive over anything. Who knows what else he did with it, but when I went to check on it, I saw what he was doing and I told him to return it. He wasn't happy and that might also be the reason he refused to take responsibility for the tire damage.

He then hired it out and stiffed the guy he hired. He told him he charged too much after the job was done and paid him less than half of what he was billed. They were threatening each other to go to court, but I don't know the final outcome.

Eddie

Man that just would not of been allowed. I would of never been able to leave for work if I knew that was about to happen. I would of pitched a fit like a 2 year old.

One thing I have learned over the years, if you want to preserve your relationships with friends and family is just don't lend out tools. I will help anyone do anything. I never charge anyone for my help and if I burn out my own drill at least I did it. People in general feel bad if something breaks on there watch and sometimes it strains the friendship even if you say it's no big deal. My policy is I don't lend power anything or tools in general. I will however let most people come over and use stuff in my shop that way I don't lose track of things. I like my friends and sometimes friends & family take advantage of each other because thats just part of being friends.

Never a lender or borrower be.

Any time I've lent out tools of any description, it seems I had to go hunt them down later. Rather than instigate a fight that way, I'd just as soon start the brawl by refusing to let tools out of my sight. People who understand that policy USUALLY don't ask to borrow much anyway. Those who DON'T understand, USUALLY don't have a lot to begin with.

My dad explained this part of "life" to me at an early age. He told me, "When you get along with someone, there's no grief. When You DON't get along, usually one person is full of that grief. That person can be you, or it can be the "other guy". It's up to you as to which one it is".

And then you have kids..... My son obviously never heard from HIS dad, the same explaination I heard, even though I distinctly recall telling him.

Anyone seen my hammer?

Oh I don't know - how old is your son? I'm in my 50's and my spiel about not loaning out tools is a virtual tape recording of my Dad - just took me a very long time to find the playback button :)

I could have never let anyone use my tractor. You are a bigger man than me. But there again I don't know that I would have anyone digging holes on my property either.
