Ford did mortgage EVERYTHING and took out a super low interest government DOE loan for $5.9B. It wasn't the best route but the family business didn't want the government in their panties. Ford was in worse shape and they took a different path.

You guess I can't afford a truck? you don't have a clue..

Go buy a new truck and drive it for 10 years, let us know how all the electronics are treating you in that time frame.. I have bought without putting to much thought into it probably 15 new trucks, all different kinds, some better than others but as a whole they are all junks..

By the way while you're "guessing" who can afford what, you might want to space you're posts out so people can read them not that they are of any use..

Well I bought new a 2001 Ford F-150 and it was bullet proof other than brakes needed replacing every 50-60k. Drove it right to 180k without any issues. Bought a new 2008 F250 Lariat again a great truck other than brakes, and 2 radiators, a broken cab bolt. Friend of mine bought a new 2007 GMC Denali for his sales job. He had 437,000 miles on it when his step son just totaled it in May of this year. Never touched anything but a few sensors, belts, alternator, water pump, battery, tires etc. Same engine/tranny etc. Another friend has a 08 Chevy Dmax. Replaced 3 injectors, alternator and seat motor. He has 270,000 on it now. By the way my wife’s 2014 Nissan Armada just hit 110k and has never been back to the shop since new. All vehicles are just better today than 15-20 years ago period. People use to trade at 100k because they were considered wore out. Unless you beat the **** out of them 100k is nothing now. Sorry but I totally disagree agree with you in this one.

I can only WISH I could get 30 K miles on a set of rotors.

It's more like every 20K with two pad slaps between. Frozen calipers are a constant nag.

Rust never sleeps around here.

No problem, it's going to happen some time... Everyone has an opinion, you know mine and I know yours, no big deal...

With the cost of today’s vehicles and the relation of that cost to the average persons income or just comparing prices and money then against todays with inflation etc. is astounding. Being happy to get 100,000 more or less trouble free miles ? Gees. We should be getting closer to 250,000 with proper care and basic maintenance on most any vehicle.

For just a little more unpleasantness factor in the issues with many of the repair jobs and parts availability and the factory effort to limit the ability of the owners to do repairs that wish to.

Sure the new vehicles are nice with lots of bells and whistles but for many of us wanting a vehicle to do a job reliably at a reasonable operating cost its a mess and a constant irritant.

My suburban has 290k and still drives good. My dad’s suburban has 222k and you’d think it was brand new driving it. I had a Silverado with 230k and it still drove good. Rust was its biggest issue. My buddy has a Silverado with about 270k and he’s beat the crap out of it and it’s still going. Anyone that says vehicles built within the last 20 years is junk at 100k miles is wrong.

I drive a 2006 Honda Ridgeline with 230K miles that I bought for $3000. Combined with my 14ft PJ utility trailer I’m $5000 all in and can move everything I need. I’ll be driving the Ridgeline and trailer across the USA in November and have no concerns about reliability.

IMHO part of the issue is the consumer. We want all this stuff on our vehicles which not only drives up the cost but also the complexity. I watched a friend of mine take apart a old 1960’s something 1 ton truck and organize the pieces across the floor in his barn while he prepared the frame for paint. Can you image doing that to a new truck? Holy cow would that be a mess. I just wonder how many miles of wiring there would be. Even a base truck is so much more feature rich than a truck of just 20 years ago. I’m still amazed though at how many top trim levels are sold. Look at Ford you have the following :
XL
XLT
Lariat
King Ranch
Platinum
Limited

The limited version is 80k base without extra options. Here in the south you see them running everywhere.
