sorry for failure to identify tractor type. it's a b7800. i have a backhoe on the back and got out today and raised all 4 wheels off the ground got my wife to sit on the seat. i cleaned everything related to the forward/reverse pedal with brake cleaner. made sure no debris was hanging pedal and lubed all the mechanisms. i cleaned the safety switch and made sure it was not misaligned. i found one tiny twig about 4" long and about the diameter of 3 toothpicks in that area. it came loose easy and didn't seem to be jamming anything. i relubed everything with a graphite lubricant. all the greasy lubes seem to attract dirt and other things. it seemed to be working better. not 100% sure it's all ok. gonna go retest everything tomorrow and see it it'll work out.

Humm...sounds something like the problem I'm having with my B3030. Can't engage the rear PTO to operate logging winch out of seat without killing engine. Guess I need to check out the PTO safety switches next.

You are aware that you must tip seat forward to run pto while off of the tractor, right?

Yes I'm aware that the seat has to be tilted forward, trans in Neutral, brake set, before the PTO can be engaged for out of seat operation. Problem is none of that seems to make a difference so I'm pretty sure it's one of the safety switches. Just not sure how to troubleshoot to identify which one.

One at a time until you find the switch that is not closing.

OK I would check the switch for the seat. Make sure that the switch is being pressed in when the seat is lifted. If you have an ohm meter or a continuity tester you can check that the switch is making contact. Make sure to unplug wires from switch when checking with tester or meter. To do these tests the tractor does not need to be running. Good luck, I hope this helps.

When I first noticed the problem the first thing I noticed was that the leaf spring that depresses the switch when the seat is tilted forward wasn't closing the switch. I adjusted that leaf spring and also closed the switch by hand but it still wouldn't allow the engine to continue running when the PTO was engaged. Haven't had time to put an ohm meter on anything yet though. Also haven't yet had a chance to try to locate the PTO safety switches.
