Is this a regular hexagon?
That is six sides of equal length?
Or irregular such as a square or rectangle with two chamfered edges creating 6 sides?
Regardless if you can give the length of all six sides plus the height I can plug it into the cad and give you the volume in a moment or two.
cubic inches I presume?

Right know the thing is unfigurable to anyone. You need more dimensions. You cannot find the area of a rectangle by only knowing what the long side is right??

See my earlier diagram. It can be anything. The only thing we can figure for certain is that it is LESS than 18x18x22...... 7128 cu in, or less than 4.125 cu ft.

But how much less can only be determined by getting more dimensions.

What is the brand/model of this furnace BTW??

An Energy King 385 which I just went on line for to garner more specs. It appears they are using one firebrick for the slanted sides. If I can assume one fire brick is 9" then this should be giving us more to work with. We have 4 out of the 6 triangles in this mess with two sides of each triangle at 9".

Thanx GC but it is irregular. I can only give you the length of 4 sides which are 9". I'm not smart enough to figure the unknown sides but I figure there must be a way.
And something struck me as impossible. How can the internal height measurement be 18" as given to me by the rep if the sides are 9" but slanted? No wonder they do not post the fire box size in cu. ft. No one at the factory knows how to do it either.

Actually, if you look at this picture of the furnace

385ekfurnace-cutaway3.jpg

It appears to be 7-sided, and totally irregular. And impossible to figure with about ALL of the measurments.

Just wondering though, why are you wanting to know so badly??

Also, where did you get the 18 x 18 numbers from. I cannot find anything on their site other than plenum outlet is 18x18 But 18" high for a firebox seems kinda smallish. I think dads brunco had to be at least 2' from the top to the grates, if not more.

By knowing the firebox size, it would give me an idea of the burn time. I agree the burn box looks irregular and 7 sided in that picture. If you scroll through the specification images, you find a photo that is more hexagonal. Plus the rep said it was shaped like a "stretched stop sign" 18" high….18" wide

This is a "tube secondary burn device" If they wanted some type of e.p.a. acceptance criteria some where down the line, they would make the firebox smaller than larger. Question was…. just how small? Let's do this and put this to rest. Its bigger than 3 cu ft but smaller than 4cu ft. umm?…I'd say about 10 hrs in my house.

I can live with that.

IF you end up getting it, measure each side, and maybe some angles with an angle finder and we can figure it exact:thumbsup:
